I have a 5' firestik 2 kicking around and want to use it as a super portable no ground plane base antenna. Do people have any recommendations on how to use it ? Money is limited and I want to use the existing antenna. I'd ty-wrap it to a camera tripod if that worked !

You need a ground-plane for it to work.

You'll get a lot better performance out of a magnet mount and a cookie sheet than that.

How large does the cookie sheet need to be in order to make it a suitable ground plane with a magnet mount antenna?
