Hi. I just bought a new Reitnouer Maxmiser with winch track on both sides. When I load a palletized load there is no place to hook the straps on one side. the rub rail is rated for 6600#, but I prefer to hook under the lip of the outside rail, inside of the rub rail. I have 15 winches on the left side, and none on the right. I could buy winches or retainers for the right side, but for $35+, per, that seems like an expensive option. I have considered taking the winch track off, but I thought it might be nice to be able to move some winches over at some point. The J plates don't really work either because the pallets are often covering the track. Am I blind or not looking at this right? I can't be the only one to run into this. I otherwise love this trailer. I'm sorry if this is dealt with in a different thread, but I didn't find anything. Thanks.

Get some winches for the other side. Guys that do it like it a lot.

If you put some winches on the other side would it work to cut the hooks off of some of your straps and run them through the winch on each side?

You sure that the trailer does not take another type of strap end? One of our trailers requires the triangular ends and another requires chain ends. Yet another trailer has a piece of strap iron running the length of the trailer.

I have winch tracks on both sides of my Fontaine,.. I have 12 on one side and 13 on the driver side. I dont think I have ever used them all at the same time. I feel its better to have and not need, than to need and not have.

Being able to utilize either side depending on your load,.. weather/wind/ice conditions etc really help make it easier to strap it down and roll out.

As for the securement end,.. are you using the right type of ends? Some trailers are set up for different types of strap ends. Personally I like to strap mine down like you do yours.

The J hook straps will fit right into the strap winch. No need to cut them off.

Another option with winches on both sides, that 23' of strap beyond where it's damaged, you know the one's, the straps that become useless due to the tear 4' from the hook. I have used those ends winch to winch for years and best part, their free. In fact I have 12 brand new straps still in their boxes that I have not touched, just filled my box with the straps (most used 1 time) that our drivers throw away at the main terminal.

Thats what sucks about having single side track, i cant do that. Cut within 15' and its gone, i have a few shorties that i have marked, use em on little loads excc, but most are just tossed

Several years ago an International Paper company truck flat bed was meeting a woman, & the load came off of the left hand side falling onto the car as this truck met this woman on a highway. They stated the truck was going about 55 MPH when the load fell off. Fortunately it did not kill her, but she was in very critical condition for several weeks. And after recovery she was never the same, this brought trouble to her & her family for the rest of her life. It was a miracle that she survived, her car was left being totally destroyed. Their load fell on her hood & the top of the car on her side. Another woman was with her setting in the passenger seat & she was injured critically too, yet she come out better than the driver.

Its never to expensive to make sure a load on a flat bed tuck is very secured. But its plain neglect to not have the load secured being sure that your straps are in very good condition & that you’ve got enough of them.

Pulling a trailer without a rubrail for a while will cure you of that. :happy8:

I would buy three more winches and then split them up between the sides, but it depends on how you like to like to strap I suppose.
