I think I know the answer to this one already, but I don't know if it changed. Headed from Boise to Post Falls, I was wondering if 95 was still a restricted route. I usually go 84 into Oregon and up 82 to 395 and come back east on 90, but I have enough time and I'd never run 95 up through there. If anybody knows, let me know! Thanx.

Yes restricted. You'd need the permit to use the route between Council and Grangeville. I called the number in the Rand McNally atlas and paid for the permit $43 bucks over the phone and picked it up later when the trip was over at the scales in Lewiston.
My company is supposed to provide those permits but that day I couldn't get ahold of anyone so just took care of it myself. -
It is quite the drive. My favorite coffee stand is along that route.

Interesting that this comes out today....
I asked about the same drive yesterday here.

Thanx for the info. I'd pay for that permit, I do love getting off the interstate and taking drives like that. When I thought I might route myself that way, I looked at the miles. It's only 30-40 miles less going straight up 95 as opposed to the other way. I love driving through the mountains.
MNdriver Thanks this. -

Last night I thought I was. Then when I found the other listing I was way confused.
So yes, you'd need to get a permit to travel down US95. -
If you're hauling a 53' trailer, yes, you need a permit. As you do in most western states when you're off the STAA truck routes. Only Idaho issues you a permit rather than telling to 'get a different trailer' as Arizona told me once.

95 IS NOT A RESTRICTED ROUTE. it is open to ALL trucks.
55 IS HOWEVER, TO 48 FT TRAILERS and you need a permit. there's a scale in horshoe bend that checks permits.
and before any of you start calling me a liar. i just came from there. took the 55 to mccall for delivery. up north for pickup and came back on the 95. -
Don't you need a permit to run 95 with a 53 foot trailer anymore??
