Demonrogue and pattyj Thank this. -

Yeah especially when the original shipper of my load is in san leandro California

Sucks when things like that happens when everyone is asleep and you have to wait till they start work to give you the correct number.

Worst part is I only have 7hrs 8mins on my 70hr clock to drive today and only a small pilot truck stop and another truck stop that charges 20 usd to park over night

Welcome to the machine. I did that for 4.5 years. The good news was I wasn't burning any fuel. I spent many a night "camped out" on Ashland Av. outside some stupid container yard ( with a few others, I may add) with one eye open. Not the best part of town. I thought it had gotten better. That's ( one of )the problem(s) with intermodal, there's so many outfits involved. Back then (90's) we didn't care about too many hours and adopted a "get there when I get there" attitude. Not all receivers liked that, but I was quick to say, "hey, you're the one that used the rail, what do you want from me"?

This happens all the time at the RR. But normally a simple phone call gets you the right release number. If you have to pay the $20 to park at the Amerifreight truckstop at least you will have a guaranteed spot as that place is never even half full.

Gotta love to hate the rail yards. Yep we deal with this a lot too, except with us its 3rd party ( final ) billing invoices. We drop trailers at NS in Atlanta and austell going to Miami and the final rail carrier is FEC. NS won't accept any trailers to drop until FEC has sent them the billing invoice...through our dispatch.... for that trailer. Too many hands in the process usually gums it up and somebody forgets or otherwise doesn't get it done before we get there.
5 times out of 10 it's an 1800 drop to get on the train at 1900 and the billing isn't there. They don't allow us to stay on the property while our dispatch sorts it out with FEC and there just aren't that many places to park off of Marietta blvd in Atlanta. At 1800 lol. we used to be allowed to park while they sort it out but it happens so often they've changed that policy and we can't stay there anymore.
I won't even go into the fun and games of trying to find the empty that's never where they say it is.
I can feel your pain and frustration. I cringe every time I get one of those loads but been doing it long enough now I start bugging dispatch 100 miles out to confirm billingLast edited: Jan 11, 2017
