Im sure Im going to regret starting this but, why do current and former union driver believe they are superior to non-union drivers? Now before everyone gets in an up roar we have all seen our fair share of idiots out there trying to haul cars. Especially in the last 5-10 years or so. Im talking about the good car haulers that didn't happen to work for PMT, Hadley, Allied, Jack Cooper, etc. I started hauling cars in 2004. At that time union car hauling jobs were hard to find as the big union companies were in decline. Plus, I didn't wanna drive the junk they offering.

I don't pay attention to them and could care less what they are doing..
The guys I have spoken with (Cooper and Cassens) didn't treat me any different.
We, with what we do, are no threat to them at all....We haul big stuff that they don't seem to have any interest in..
It's all good.... -
Yeah I love that Sun Country of yours. I wanted one of those for years but didn't have the freight for it. I guess we do pose a threat to them. Well, at least we did. They no longer operate in CA. Pretty much went out of business. Its just a few drivers still around and they act like those of us that didn't haul cars for union companies aren't as good as they are. Plus, a friend of mine gets weekly emails from Cooper offering him freight. Then when he goes and hauls it a bunch of their drivers talk s&^t. Even death threats
Tall Mike Thanks this. -
It seems to vary greatly depending on where you are. A lot of the Teamsters from KC are pretty decent, but most from MN are total ##### that I'd be had pressed to put out if they were afire. Many were a bit less huffy when they found out I was an O/O, too.
But I've seen with my own eyes the "throw down the bar and stomp away because they can't work near you" routine. Fine with me, I'll park outside and let someone else bring my cars to me!
I think another part of it, is the union tells them we all haul cheap, and they believe it. The concept that many if us make more than they do just doesn't register.rabbiporkchop, Tropsnart, brian991219 and 2 others Thank this. -
I actually had one guy ask me one time how I could afford a new Peterbilt and haul so cheap. I told him to use his common sense, I couldn't afford this truck if I was hauling cheap

Having come from a Teamster environment, there was this falsehood they had that they were far superior to non-union carhaulers. I had some very good ones, and I had some pathetic ones that only remained employed by the IBT saving them.
One thing for certain was they were well paid. Which gave them a false sense of how the real world is.Crude Truckin', crb, rabbiporkchop and 4 others Thank this. -
I've been wondering about this too, but I was assuming that they are paid a lot more than non union, is this true or not? Of course factoring in that after they retire they will still get a paycheck in addition to 401k right?

There are good and bad car haulers at every company. Its just the attitude we non-union guys get from there. My wife dispatches for a company that is owned and run by former PMT drivers. They have a lot of drivers that are former Hadley and PMT also. Trust me, some of their freight is the cheapest around. And their drivers damage just as many cars as everyone else. But yet they all feel they are still superior. Trust me there are good union car haulers but they aren't the only good ones
passingthru69, Hammer166, Colorato and 1 other person Thank this. -
rabbiporkchop and Terry270 Thank this.

The IBT faction of carhauler damages their fair share, and then some.
