Thus far I have heard nothing good or bad about them UNIDEN 980's; perhaps the 980 is still on the new side just yet and nobody has put much thought into firing one up...this is only my guess. A CB radio shop may have the word on the Uniden 980. I need to swing in on a shop and find out myself...

The reviews for the 980 show it to be an excellent performer. Uniden really did their homework on this one.

However, there are very few mods for it. Specifically, it does not appear that it will do anything other than the stock 40 channels; the tricks that could be used on older radios will not work on this one.

My recommendation would be to leave it stock, and add an amp if you need more power.

    I plan on getting one.

Any CB sold in truck stops now are not as powerful as a 10 meter CB cause of the FCC rules a few years ago. I dont know current price on CB's lately, but if you know a good CB shop that sells Magnum radios. I have a Magnum S3 i bought in 2004, the last radio i bought too, and if dies i will but another Magnum. they are good out of the box, buy they are a 10 meter, and get a Road King mic....just saying

The FCC rules about no more than 4 watts of power have been around for the last 35 years. They're nothing new.

One thing about the 980 is they have an annoying beep when you change the channel, but you get a weather band radio, and an AM/SSB radio, with freq. read out and color changing capabilities, all in one package.

Truck stops dont sell 10 meter radios is what I'm saying, but they used to sell them.

You're right, most truck stops no longer sell them. Pilot used to, until they were slapped with a huge fine.

That mod was found very quickly...
