I worked for hirschbach motor lines for almost two years, and in that time, i estimate that my revenue was over 300,000 dollars, the money i earned for the company neared 1,000,000 dollars, and my actual take-home pay was below the poverty range both years. i worked as an owner-operator, making my own tractor payments and paying for my own fuel, which cost me, but was not so much to keep me frequently below 0 dollars pay for two to nine consecutive weeks in a row. This i attribute to their shifty accounting; trips appeared in later weeks than they should have, fuel was charged very close to deadlines for new weeks, mysterious abbreviated (and unidentifiable) charges in the hundreds and thousands appeared that had nothing to do with my truck, and i was quite literally straved into taking runs on the east coast that amounted to negative pay. Also, this company does a great deal of business with tyson meat, who overload, are uncourteous, and leave the trailers filthy, which causes me to have to waste my time and money sliding axels, weighing, and getting washouts too frequently. As well as accepting non-paying loads, i also had to spend several tousand dollars a year going through tolls, which i was also forced to take- keep in mind as an owner-operator, i should always have the option of choosing my own freight- and none of this expense was refunded by the company. after i finally quit because of my comdata card being cut off by the safety department for a two day late physical, i was further screwed over- they never refunded my pet deposit, even though the truck had no damage, they charged me for a trailer repair, took out 2,000 dollard in unidentifiable charges that were not in my contract, and managed to make my total revenue and deductions that exct same amount, resulting in 0 pay. there was also an accident that had never occurred charged to me for the amount of 1000 dollars. dont work for hirschbach.

I'm speechless! All of the violations of your "contract" zero net pay for nine consectutive weeks and it took you two years to quit! Heck I'll hire you to run my truck, so I can stay home while you work for nothing. You can quit after one year, that should be a long enough vacation for me.

By the way an O/O can refuse loads, a LEASE OPERATOR can't always do that. News Flash!!!! you were not an O/O.

If they violated the contract, why haven't you contacted an attorney and attempt to collect the monies owed you.

Wow what great numbers, let's look at them. A total of a MILLION dollars revenue in LESS than 2 years? How many miles in those 2 years? Let's say 300,000 which I know is way high. So they are charging $3.30 a mile to their customers? Sorry don't think so.

Why would an o/o have to pay a pet deposit in the first place?

his numbers are off,but this is a common theme...lease operators more often than not make no money, or negative net cash. the truck is paid for, because they make sure of it...you? you can starve.

the companies are in control of the terms of not only the contract, but more importantly which loads you do or do not get (and they are not part of your family, they arent even on your "team").

they make it so that they make money no matter how bad it goes for you.

with that said i really like the idea of the choice program that schneider and a few other companies have, but they still control what goes on that board, and they can take it off. and i still wouldnt do it w/o having the capital to buy a used truck w/ cash and have 10k set aside for operating expenses, and i dont have it,so im not doing it.

Can't add much as everyone's pretty much spoke my mind for me! Lesson number one is never lease on, or sign on with a company that also has company drivers.
That's the cardinal rule as far as I'm concerned.

I'm tossing the B.S. flag on this. $150k per year ($300 divided by 2) and still had (in his words) 2 to 9 weeks without a check? Sounds like BAD money management to me. You had run to the east coast, boo hoo. next time avoid some of the toll roads, it not that hard. A little more effort yes, but doable. (I run the northeast all the time, cant avoid them all, but you can cut the number down pretty easy) Bad trip planning on your part. Non paying loads???? really you expect us to believe that nonsense?. The physical....that is a federal thing, you must have a current medical card. You waited to long, its YOUR fault. Of course that big question is why did you wait 2 years to leave???????

This is nothing to do with being a lease operator vs. owner operator, in my opinion it is nothing more then some guy who didn't know what he was doing, bad with money and rather then look in the mirror blames the company.

The numbers he posted are suspect!
Why or where do lease purchase drivers get the idea they are OWNER OPERATORS?
When the title is in YOUR name do you join the ranks of the OWNER OPERATOR!
If you have NO say as to the freight you haul, the route you drive or the fuel you pump into the tank you will NEVER be an O/O!

I'll say it again and you L/P cheerleaders can kiss my royal buttocks!

A Lease Purchase driver is nothing but a company driver that is making the companies truck, fuel and maintenance payments while patting you on the back whispering lies in your ear and sticking you with no Vaseline!

To make it easy for them to understand you are paying to drive their truck!
