I was about to go take my CLP tests this afternoon, but I just read that even though the actual permit doesn't expire for 180 days, if you don't take your road test within 90 days, you have to start over again on the written tests? Is that true?
I'm thinking if that is true, I need to hold off on getting it. A lot of the school around here don't seem to have a start date for another couple of months. I definitely wouldn't be taking my road test within 90 days.

i find that difficult to believe that if it's for 180 days, it expires in 90...

why have a permit issued for 180 days then..???

From what I understand you can still use the permit to drive with a licensed driver for 180 days, but if you take longer than 90 days to do your road test, you have to retake all of the written tests. Hang on a sec I'll find the link.

ok first, i simply will not read anything from a message board, where opinions are used not facts.

    second, this link...CLP Implementation Info

did you know that does say...PUPIL TRANSPORTATION...???

    like in school busses..??

the way it usually works is like this...permits are good for 90 days...WITH IN THAT 90 days, BEFORE it expires, you go and get a renewal....for a nominal fee.

IF you let the 90 day permit EXPIRE, then you have to go thru the testing all over again, and pay all the fee's again.

if memory serves me, in my state, we had at least 2...90 day permits available to us (one at a time) and if after that renewal we needed another permit, we had to start all over again...

for this reason, MOST schools tell you when to get the permit, as they are monitoring your progress, and THEY KNOW the expiration times for you.

    • CLP is eligible to be renewed one time, 30 days prior to expiration
