I know a guy selling a very clean 2005 379 Peterbilt 400k miles. Problem is the frame is bent (twisted between the 5th wheel and the cab where there are no cross members) after a low speed jackknife. It still drives straight but it is noticeably unlevel when bobtail. its not tragically bent just "off" about how much would it cost to bend a twisted frame? The frame is twisted about 3 inches in a right twist. whats the going rate per hour on tractor frames? I once bent a frame with two wreckers a centimeter per hour for 6 hours cold. but that was a different kinda bend . Nice truck, hate to see that its a complete loss.

Just put new frame rails in it,unbolt everything from one side at a time and slide the frame rail out and the new one in.You can also lenghten the wheelbase when you are doing this if you want to. I done it to a heavy haul truck once that got the frame hung in the kingpin when it was un-hooking and tore a piece of the frame behind the fifth wheel and the end of the frame. The trailer was loaded, and sitting too low to pull out and turn and the driver turned before he was clear of the trailer and it caught and ripped. Replacing the rails was the only way to fix it and sounds like the safest way to fix your twisted frame that way you wouldnt have to worry about any alignment issues or proper tracking issues or driveshaft issues. It would be fixed right!!!

yeah i understand what you mean, i had a friend that said he should do the rails, he's agreed to take it to the frame shop before he sells it to someone. prob the best bet rather than selling what could be junk.

new rails is a HUGE job. id pass
ramblingman Thanks this. -
Yeah it wouldbe easier to get a new truck if the rails couldnt be straightened, might as well use the truck as a donor to another straight one.

I've known a couple guys that straightened bent frames, one was great, other one wore tires funny after. He tried several alignments but it always wore the tires.
The frame rails would be a sure bet its gonna be straight. If you can get it for a really good price, it might be worth it!!

I have replaced frame rails it is a relatively large job, not rocket science just a lot of bolts to remove, support everything then slide out the old rail and slide in the new.
It can be straightened if not kinked, take it to a decent class eight body shop, or Phone a dealership and ask who they recomend
I would say it would cost less than a $750.00 and that is with a full all axle alignment after it is straightened.
Just a thought! -
Must be nice to live in your world. My Pete has developed a 1" twist in the frame. 3 frame shops quoted 2 g minimum to fix it. It'll be like that for awhile for 2 grand
