Questions: 1. is the background check for HAZMAT endorsement more / less detailed than the b.ground-check to obtain TWIC ? Already have TWIC.

    2. for HAZMAT, do they have you fill out an application where you list your criminal history, or do they simply run a check on you - and if it comes back ok they pass you?

Asking this because thinking of making career change into driving, but worried if very old past history (misdemeanors only) would keep me from getting started and future advancing as a driver after getting more experience.

Reading this site a lot for a couple weeks, great info! Helpful.

Here's a list of disqualifying offenses.

    http://www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/layers/hazmat/disqualifiers.shtm

The following lists include HME disqualifying crimes and are comparable to disqualifiers for assessments undergone by airport and airline employees. These crimes are only disqualifying if they are considered felonies in the appropriate jurisdiction, civilian or military. You are eligible to submit waiver or appeal materials for certain crimes.

    Interim Criminal Disqualifiers

TSA will send a letter to you with details of potentially disqualifying factors if you have been convicted or found not guilty by reason of insanity within the previous 7 years or were released from prison in the last 5 years for any of the following crimes:

    Eligible for Waiver/Appeal

Unlawful entry into a seaport Assault with intent to murder Kidnapping or hostage taking Rape or aggravated sexual abuse Unlawful possession, use, sale, manufacture, purchase, distribution, receipt, transfer, shipping, transporting, delivery, import, export of, or dealing in a firearm or other weapon Extortion Dishonesty, fraud, or misrepresentation, including identity fraud Bribery Smuggling Immigration violations Violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) under 18 U.S.C. 1961, or a comparable State law, other than any permanent disqualifying offenses Robbery Distribution of, intent to distribute, or importation of a controlled substance Arson Conspiracy or attempt to commit any of these crimes

    Permanent Criminal Disqualifiers

TSA will send a letter to you with details of potentially disqualifying factors if you have been convicted or found not guilty by reason of insanity for any of the following crimes, regardless of when they occurred:

    Not Eligible for Waiver

Espionage Sedition Treason A crime listed in 18 U.S.C. Chapter 113B - Terrorism, or a State law that is comparable

    Eligible for Waiver/Appeal

Bomb threats Crime involving a transportation security incident Improper transportation of a hazardous material under 49 U.S.C. 5124 or a comparable State law Unlawful possession, use, sale, distribution, manufacture, purchase, receipt, transfer, shipping, transporting, import, export, storage of, or dealing in an explosive or explosive device Murder Violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) under 18 U.S.C. 1961, or a comparable State law, where violations consist of any of the permanent disqualifying offenses Conspiracy or attempt to commit any of these crimes

Google TSA hazmat endorsement. I've forgotten the steps and I just renewed mine a couple months ago!

I know when I first got my TWIC, my hazmat was recent enough, they used it.

I just got a TWIC card in this past two weeks and they told me I don't have to redo my finger prints( the woman working there said they have just changed over to doing it this way). It is the same agency that do both background checks. So I would assume you would be ok.

The TWIC card is a closer background check. The hazmat test does not include a body cavity search. I went back three times for that.

The background checks are federal. It is a crime to lie to a federal investigator. Ask Martha Stewart. All criminal things will come back. This includes arrest and not just convictions. I as a felon got both hazmat and TWIC, so felonies do not automatically block you. Lying does.

Just go in and ask them if they have seen any good Muslim movies lately.
