Some require it, others don't. It does make you more attractive to certain companies. If you're dealing with ports and/or military bases you will need it.

I've never had one and only been asked about it three times. Once at an aluminum foundry in owensboro ky. All they said was I should have one and that's the last I heard about it. Twice at the port on Baltimore, md. I had to be "escorted". That consists of one guy in a security truck parked in eyesight just in case I decide to run off with 46k lbs of aluminum.

Have never been asked for a twic card at a military base. A couple of years ago I ran 4-5 bases a week and was not asked even once. NOB Norfolk, Ft Knox, Ft Campbell, Pope AFB, Wright Patterson AFB, NAS Corpus Christie just to start

Not all companies require TWIC; most hazmat tanker companies do. You must get the TWIC on your own at a TWIC office. Don't know if any companies front the money for TWIC or not. I think they closed the TWIC office in Old Hickory where I got mine. You may have to go to Chattanooga.

Depends on company, most will hire without it, but if u pickup at ports it will save moeny and time not needing an escort.

Not unless they require it. TWIC cards are only applicable if you're going into a port facility where there's water nearby. I haul hazmat tanker loads (chemicals) so in my case yes, I have a TWIC but even then, many companies don't ask for them. I've read that they're going to ask for proof of nationality soon in many facilities, or resident alien proof. This red tape BS never ends.

I think it was like 150 the last time i checked...there is the initail fee then the card processing fee when you pick it up. requires a back ground check and 2 meetings. The whole twic system is stupid. Most places I use it, i flash it to them so quick they cant even see if its real and they just open the gate. Some actualy take a look at it, but no one has asked for me to enter my pin or even scanned it. I save about an hour by having it because the escorts that the company pays for are slow.

$135, plus the time. You have to be physically present at a TWIC office... twice. The same one both times in order to get your biometric information encoded into the embedded chip, after they make your card.
