I have not heard of someone being fined for putting a driver under a load without a TWIC. You just get turned away when you show up at the port. Escorts at the Dundalk Marine Terminal in Baltimore run $45/hr. Escorts are not armed, but they have to remain within arms length of the person they are escorting. Normal unload/reload time at the port is 2-4 hours. So it doesn't take long to exceed the cost of the TWIC. Is it BS? Absolutely. It is a pain for truckers because enrollment facilities are generally located at Ports, and you are required to pick up your card at the same facility you enrolled at.

LOL... maybe that's part of the "security system." Do ya really think a terrorist would go through this much hassle to hook onto a container with a nuclear bomb in it?

Yep, in addition to the TWIC certification, Dundalk Marine Terminal uses EModal to manage/register fleets, truckers etc. EModal does this for other ports...east coast & west.

    EModal . com

Registration must be kept up-to-date on driver and truck. Driver's license #, state, truck registration and (recently added) insurance as required info. The driver is tied with the registered truck & all associated info. If license plate changes (or other info) on the truck, it must be updated in the system before the driver can get through the gate # Dundalk.

Basic EModal registration does not cost but they do offer paid services, i.e. smartphone apps for container yankers, etc.

you can get into jaxport 3 times within 90 days ,after that you need jaxport badge or have to wait 90 days if you buy a badge and let it expire the 90 rule does not apply anymore you have to pay escort or renew badge ,had a twic since the start it has never been scaned at any port tx to fl and ga, today I went to mcdill afb in tampa no badge asked for instead they wanted my ss# and license when I protested giving my ss # the shipper claimed security guards had thought about arresting me because I did not agree that my ss# would prove that I am not criminal my cwp, jaxport badge ,cdl and twic card should be all that was needed I have been to many army depots and never been asked for my ss# I did my load and declined the others they offered me

To update this TWIC thread, I just came across this concerning the Florida ports. I have been emailing the Jaxport folks for several years about the useless duplicate credentials for their port when the TWIC card was supposed to be sufficient for all ports. After they insisted "this is just the way it is down here...you wanna come here...pay the fee and get the card". Well, I paid it back before TWIC became official but I refused to pay again after the initial Jaxport card expired and TWIC was in my possession. I had to turn my customers to a different port up north a bit and never missed a beat.

    Now, I read this:

    http://www.landlinemag.com/todays_news/Daily/2011/May11/050911/051211-01.shtml

and it is reassuring that there are others that realize this was nothing more than a money grab from truckers. Yeah to Florida for getting this right. Small thing but it is encouraging.

Uh, the way this government is run it has very good reason to fear the people. The slow disarming of the populace, plus integrating of illegal searches into everything we do from going to a club to flying an airplane shows a propensity towards turning the citizens into sheep ready to be led wherever the top 1% wants them to go.

Gov. Rick Scott of FL signed legislation eliminating the duplicate port IDs in FL. Not sure when that takes effect. Was just at Red River and they now require TWIC

I agree. It seems to me that most people are either ignoring the obvious or don't see what is actually going on.
