So my co driver just told me that our Pete 379 2007 with a cat c15 acert double turbo is squeezing badly at 1500 RPms or more and shakes badly. I'm thinking it's turbo related.
How could I diagnose the turbos or rule them out? And if it is the turbos how much are the parts to replace them and how hard is it to do?
Do I need any specialty tools or anything?
Whats the best option for turbo replacements for this motor?
THanks guys for helping us out. As it stands we are currently stuck. Thanks again

Only way to check is to pull intake and exhaust and visually check for damage and play. The acerts are bad for an exhaust sleeve coming apart and taking both turbos out. They are also bad for broken actuator/rocker bolts. Squeeling could be a bad air leak in intake piping or charge air cooler as well as turbos. A bad leak can cause the symptoms you are describing. I would check that first. It's a royal pain to remove all the piping to check the turbos.

Can it use aftermarket turbos? And if so which ones? And how much are the turbos themselves if I have to buy new cat ones vs aftermarket ones?
It's odd though because we are not having any issues out of the normal when we are unloaded and weighing in at 50,000 so it appears to only be having while loaded and under heAvy load. Any ideas? -
I believe there are no upgrades for the "twins"......

3000-4000 for the set from cat. I am unsure on aftermarket. Plan on broken mounting bolts and new sleeves when you change them. No special tools needed just lots of patience. Need to do a pressure test on intake system first. If creative you can do test with plastic tubs, clamps, and a gauge with air port. Load 30psi and spray with soapy water. Squeeling turbos you should have an easy leak to find. Unless you are loaded the twins can keep up boost, but under load sounds like you are losing boost. They will scream like a raped ape when a boot is blown or a blown manifold. You may have bad turbo(s), but I would check air system first, it will only cost you time. Good luck.

Hmmmm, so pressure testing the system to thirty psi will reveal any leaks, which would be helpful.
I am in the truck now, and it seems to not have the turbo squeal . So I, thinking co driver didn't really know what was going on. He didn't know what his boost pressure or turbo temp was at the time, so I'm thinking maybe he overheated the turbos.....but I'm not sure.
I do notice it shakes and has less power under load.....so I'll start up another thread for that. -
i purchased after market high pressure turbo here in cali about a year ago at a cost of 950$ put it on my self and im very satistfy. you just need basic mechanic hands, and some basic tools.
but what you do need is to be a round any one of them dealers who serving cat engine incase you you`ll new v clamps. -
When pricing out parts, try pricing through your Peterbilt dealer. I have frequently gotten Cat parts much cheaper from them than as a walk-in at Cat.

Run an oil test also, see what you find
