Have a 97 pete, Detroit 60 series 12.7 pre egr. Noticed small oil bead running down the small tube coming down from the turbo. (I think it's called an "oil drainage tube" ?) It's not a lot of oil but enough to make me uncomfortable. Anyone had this problem before? Oil levels are fine. Should I start saving up money now? I heard turbo problems are very expensive.

You might want to check and see if the bolts are tight, if they are then you probably just need a new gasket on the return line.

That's what I kind of figured but it seems they are on there tight. Just wondering if it might affect the turbo in any way. Thanx

It will make a mess. If it leaks bad enough you will be pumping engine oil out and not back into your crankcase. Buy a new gasket. Take the two bolts out and clean turbo bottom and return tube of all gasket material and then hook it back up. Be careful that no old gasket is left and that you don't cross thread bolts.
taxihacker66 Thanks this. -
Okay, that's first on my list for tomorrow. Thanx a lot for your reply.

Rudy,
Clean it up and try to determine where the oil is coming from. It may not be the drain tube gasket. (no pressure on that) I just replaced my turbo last week. It was leaking oil from the "cold" side oil seal. The oil was coming out of the weep hole and running down the drain tube.
A new turbo fixed it.
BTW, I went to a local turbo shop. They ordered a new "cartridge" (everything except the two end housings) from Borg-Warner. B-W was the OEM for my CAT turbo. The cost was about $250 less than a CAT ReMan turbo.
