    Hey Everyone

I am hoping someone can give me a little help. I have a 2007 Frieghtliner Century with a 2004 egr Detroit 60 engine. I just saw that my Turbo Actuator Is leaking air at the seal at the bottom of the actuator. This turbo is only 2 and a half years old so I really dont want to half to replace it. I have heard you cant replace just the actuator because it is extremely hard if not impossible to get the turbo calibrated. from looking at it are those just security torx screws at the bottom of that? I was wanting to make sure they were all tight and it wasnt leaking simply because they had come loose. Do you think I could put some heat resistant silicone or something like that around that seal point to seal that leak? the wierd thing is the leak appears to stop after you get running down the road and get the engine to operating temp. any idea are apperciated. Thanks in advance and everyone have a good day and drive safe

Problem will be that the turbo and exhaust manifold area produces an extreme amount of heat all the time. If those torx bolts are where the leak is then change them out and put some liquid blue teflon on them before installing. It is the same stuff that is used on the bendix air compressors and tranny plugs. It is meant to take heat and seal. Important note though do Not over tighten the torx bolts because you will crack housing and expand the leak. Most likely that is the cause of your leak anyways, a cracked housing would explain the leaking and then when it heats up the metal expands sealing the leak. Which is why you wanna use the liquid sealer, if the leak is small enough it could fix it. But more then likely the leak will get worse over time as crack keeps heating and cooling.

well I sprayed soapy water on the actuator. if you look at the actuator you have the main housing and then you have the bottom plate that screws onto the main housing. well the leak is right at that seam were the bottom plate meets the main housing. The main housing itself did not appear to have any leaks but I will recheck that. that is why I was thinking the screws might need to be tightened. It looks like a bad gasket for that bottom plate. is that something that is repairable?

Yeah, if it's coming from the seam where the gasket is then jackpot. I would still seal the bolts this way they won't come loose again if that is your issue. But def double check the housing where bolts go in b/c they do crack. You are talking about the small bolts right? Not a pressed style seal. If it's pressed style, which I've never seen, then I don't know what to tell you.

well I checked the front 2 screws and they didnt seem loose at all. couldnt get my tool to get to the back 2 screws. so my question is. Can I just replace the actuator only without replacing the turbo? Also right now it only seems to be leaking when the turbo is cool. once the motor is at temp. it seems to get better. Also having no performance issues at all.

Yes you can just change actuator. I would start looking for one as you drive truck. The leak is only gonna get worse, you don't want to wait till it's too late. Don't have any idea what just the actuator will cost, that's something you'll have to weigh when you find one. If it's cheap then great, if not I would change entire turbo.
