Antenna length is directly related to signal frequency. Therefore, it must be tuned to resonate optimally throughout the frequency range of the transceiver. Lower frequencies require a longer antenna than higher frequencies. Due to the various methods of adjusting antennas for proper SWR, we have chosen what we think is the optimum method:

Looks like we have a new instructor, same subject, "New" Teacher/Instructor. I wonder is this instructor is more advance or is this class gonna be a easy "A"(stuff we heard a million time on here already).

Sounds like boiler-plate-accurate instructions to me.

    First Post,

I get a 1:1 SWR throughout the entire band on my Uniden 980SSB using the built-in SWR meter. I'm using about 7 ft of Times Microwave LMR240 connected to a Firestick 4'.

I was using an 18' Wilson cable, getting 1.25:1 SWR (Channel 1) and somewhere around 3.5 on channel 40...

LMR is a better cable...but not that much better. What am I missing?

I would use an external SWR meter to double-check that integral meter. It is pretty unusual to get a perfect SWR on all channels, especially with a four-foot antenna. Is the needle responding at all when changing channels?
