Builds pressure fine. No oil at pop off on dryer. Once built up, the little pop it valve starts going off every 10 seconds or so. The pop off on the dryer gies off at about 125 psi. Which ya guys think? Thanks

Where is the little pop off located that goes off every 10 seconds?

    Search block: Compressor popping.
Might also unbolt governor from compressor. Does it send air to compressor at cut out pressure? Is the passage in the head coked up.
Repair the unloader in the compressor or just replace the unit. Just my opinion.

Looks like you put a new safety valve already, is it the right one, must be rated higher than govenor setting. Replace govenor yet. Use new one, rebuilt ones aren’t worth a crap.

it's rated for 250 psi. nope, but will be in a lil'bit. but since that's going off at 250, the truck shows 125 how could it be the governor? Also picked up a head kit.

Restricted discharge hose or plugged up drier will also cause safety valve to open.

The truck is reading 125 from the primary and secondary air tanks. You have a restriction between the compressor and the check valves mounted in the inlets of each air tank

Usually on older model trucks the air governer is fed from the wet tank. (Newer models are fed from the air drier.)

So knowing all that. (With new releif valve in place)

If you have one problem, it’s a restriction either in the oulet of the compressor (valves in head gummed up), restricted / kinked/ plugged compressor to drier line, or a plugged restricted air drier.

Most older model truck can have the air drier routed around pretty easy. Try that first.

Next most probable is a gummed up valve in the compressor head

But I would check the air line for restriction second, cause it’s easier than the head.

Pop off valve is to protect head gasket from blowing, without it head gasket usually will blow.Sounds like head gasket is fine.Govenor is cheap. So it builds up and drier spits at 125, then continues to build to 250 then safety valve starts spitting? I would change the govenor first, and check the discharge line for swelling inside while it’s disconnected

If the air drier spits at 125 then the Governor is working properly. The Governor only “asks” the air drier to spit and the compressor to shut off at the same time. You could still have a gummed up unloader not letting the compressor shut off, but that air would be puffing out of the air drier.

    It’s not your Governor.

You have sometime blocking the air from getting out of your compressor, that can be IN the compressor head, in the air line running to the air drier, or a plugged air drier cartridge.

I’m betting it’s a gummed up outlet valve in your compressor , could still be a plugged air drier cartridge. And there’s a slim chance of a plugged comp to drier line.

Check the easy stuff then remove your comp outlet line, spray a fluid in it ( brake clean, penetrating oil, etc. put it back together and see if it’s better, if it is figure out how to get the outlet valve out and give it a good cleaning.
