So I'm an ex CDL class A holder that let past relationships detour my career. Along with allowing my license to sit expired due to not having a vehicle. Not knowing that after a period of time. You actually sacrifice your CDL back to the state and have to retest after you retest for your class c first. So I'm finally situated and married. Class C license renewed and the company I work for right now is not a Trucking company but Is one of the top online merchant and warehouse logistics companies in the US and abroad. Come January 1st 2022 There Career choice program will pay 100% of my CDL training regardless if I apply for a transportation specialist position.
(Yard Jockey) or take classes at an accredited sponsored CDL school that is in the city I live in. I've done my homework on companies that train and notice that there are more now then there was back then. Understand that most companies want a year contract to pay for your training and if you honor that you only pay usually $1250 and they cover the rest. Also know that certain companies pay for your room and board. Cut a check every week while in training for food and such. With the same contract. But all costs get deducted from your weekly pay during your signed contract with them till it's paid off. You bail anytime during the signed contract you owe in full! This might sound like a easy decision. But my issue is.. If I choose the trucking school? I will still be working my 4 ten hour shifts and only be able to do 2 day classes a week that are set up for the employees of my company that choose the CDL class through there career choice program. 180 hrs. Total. 40 will be online zoom classes and 120 will be on course and on the road training at 8 hrs a day totaling 16hrs a week. Break that down and it's over 2 months to finish and get my Class A License back! Other then the normal 4-5 weeks of a full time school schedule or company trained contract. Granted I'm still holding my Job while taking these classes. Or if I take the Yard Jokey position I still get paid but go school but company paid, Graduate with a Class A with a standard transmission restriction. Just to have to use the Career choice program anyways to go back for a refresher and drive stick to get the restriction taken off!? So... I'm reaching out to get Your opinions on this matter. New drivers and Seasoned! Comments and criticism is always welcome! Looking forward to hearing back from you all!

Stay safe out there Truckers! Solo or Mom's & Dad's! Make that money! But most importantly make it home safe to your families!

Do you know anyone with a truck? Just retest with the state or one of the designated examiners.

Some of the designated examiners will rent you a truck. I rent my dump truck and trailer to guys around here that need a Class B or with the trailer, they get a Class A with the O restriction.

There are a hundreds of pre-trip videos on YouTube if you need a refresher.

You already did all this, so you don't need a full class. Get your permit before 02/07/22.

The key point in this for me is that you are now married. If I were you, that relationship would come first. In doing so, I would train for the yard jockey and do that for a year. Then I would go apply at the LTL companies and get in their training programs while being home every day with my wife. Your responsibilities have grown, you need to consider those as well.

I know of 4 companies that pay you while in their cdl school and one of them does not require a contract.
Personally, I have no problem with contracts if the pay looks good after school.
    Here's the first one:
    R. E. West Transportation
    No Experience? No Problem

    • WE PAY YOU TO TRAIN (hourly pay)
That's right - we pay you to train. On top of any sign-on incentives you may qualify for, R. E. West considers its trainees employees and pays them through the entire course of their training.
    • NO CONTRACTS OR FINE PRINT
We are completely open about our training process. If for some reason you do not make it through training, the only thing we ask is that you pay back any sign-on bonus you may have received. We do not ask you to sign any sort of contract or non-compete to receive our training.

A neighbor went through this school and said he received $616.00 weekly while in cdl school. This is salary, not money you have to pay back after you start driving. He said he has no complaints at all.
