A backing-drill training accident left an instructor dead Thursday morning after he was run over at SWIFT Driving Academy.

Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Vicki Gray confirmed the victim as Alvin “Lynn” Thomas, 61, of Barry.

Corsicana Police and Fire Rescue responded to the incident in the 2400 block of S. Business 45.

Air medical was called off the scene and the man was transported by ground to Navarro Regional Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

“I am presently training at Swift and he was my first week backing instructor,” Ralph Drees stated in a Facebook post. “Very tough, but very fair. The best of the best. He took me when I couldn't back straight to save my life and got me looking like a pro. He really cared that we were safe and would be safe drivers when we get out there on the road. There are countless people who have their CDL today because of him and are doing a job that they really love and that he really loved. All of his students, coworkers and friends are devastated.”
