As most of you know I'm just starting my driving career, and that I live in Charlotte, NC. Well when I was 18 I was told that I had 72 hours to find a new place to live as the place I was renting was no longer available. I had lived in VT for 6 years at the time, but couldn't afford to live up there anymore I had been looking for a new place for 6 months prior to the news. So most of my Friends are in VT and most of my family is in New England. I have been wanting to move back kind of and now that I just got back from visiting my newly born God Son I really want to move back. Ever since I moved here almost 3 years ago I still get phone calls/texts/e-mails daily from Friends/Friends parents/family telling me to move back lol

I not going anywhere for a while because I know it's going to be hard to find a driving job and the cost of living up there is RIDICULOUS and a new OTR driver pay isn't going to cut it.

So what I'm looking for are companies that Hire out of Vermont, Burlington Vermont to be specific and or advice from drivers in VT.

I know Old Dominion, UPS, Fed Ex are up there, not sure about Conway I hope they are.

Thanks in advanced for any help/advice!

When I worked at a dairy plant in NH, we had Milk tankers come out of Vermont.

Dairy Marketing (Systems), DMS was on the tank, I'm just not sure on the meaning of the "S"

    Also, Cabot and Agri-Mark.

Being from NH, I've discovered that there aren't many OTR companies that hire out of New England.

I've seen Prime and Western Express in my neck of the woods, but I'm in Central NH, so it's probably irrelevant to your search.

A Google search revealed that Con-Way has locations in: Williston, Wells River, West Minister, and St. Johnsbury VT

    Good Luck.

Yea I just did the same search lol they have one in Essex to. I'm kind of hoping to find:

    • Local Fuel Hauling
    • Local Tanker (anything)
    • Local Flatbed Equipment
    • Local LTL (Conway/Fed Ex/UPS)
    • Possibly Logging (Most logging jobs ask for logging experience)
    • Any Other Class A Local Job that pays good
    • A Decent OTR Company ( When I say Decent I mean Driver Friendly and Good Money, I'm not kidding about how high the cost of living is lol)
I don't mean to sound like money is the only thing that matters but I've been on my own for years, and have worked VERY hard to support myself and build a solid Work/Credit/Rental history and don't want to screw everything I've worked so hard for up just to get back to VT.

Thanks for the tip on the Tanker company, KO1927!

As to the logging, I found one a couple towns over from me who was willing to train me, so it's worth a shot if that's what you want to do. I got the job by applying to a sand and gravel company run by some relatives of the logger. It was a complete shot in the dark and so far it's working out fairly well.

Maybe see if your relatives in VT can look around and get you a list of the local outfits.

I like to say that money isn't the most important thing, but when it comes to living, it's right up there with oxygen. I too know about the cost of living in the northeast.

I don't have any family in VT anymore, But I can easily have my Friends go look for companies for me.

That's probably what I'm going to have to do...When I first got my CDL when I was 18 and couldn't find a job down here, I entertained myself buy going on line to Craigslist to look for driving jobs in VT and I did find a few that would hire me at 18 with no experience but the pay wasn't good enough. Looking back now I probably should have just taken the $16/hour and lived in a crack house lol or whatever until I could get a better job, but we all know how good hindsight is....

I lived in Falmouth, MA for 12 years before I moved to VT. Its crazy up north, down here I have a HUGE 900sf apt all to myself for $569/month and the apartment community is only 3 years old.

When I was in VT people wanted $750/month+ for a little one bedroom loft apt over there garage lol in a 50+ yr old house

There is also a big terminal in Plattburgh, NY... If i'm not mistaken, that is really close Burlington (unless there is no easy way to get around Champlain).

    American-Trucker Thanks this.
