I just don't get it!!! I live in florida 50 miles north of west palm beach. I am on 95 every day and see plenty of trucks going both north and south.It's hard to get a job from down here , but why??There seems to be plenty of freight moving. Today in a 7 mile strech i counted 15 north bound and 8 south bound trucks. 2 flatbedder's going north were emty. With all this movement in this part of florida you would think it would be easier to find work.I know florida is not big on manufacturing but with port's up and down the state you would think the industry would not be as it is here.![]()

What you did not see is how many of those North Bound trucks were empty. I was leased to Crete for many years, when I signed on and I wanted aaaan outbound load I had it. At the end I would set my PTA for Monday, and maybe get a load out on Wednesday or Thursday.....What I am trying to say, Its not always what it seems. There just isn't alot of outbound freight at the end of the line.

now my friend i live in fl. and fl. has always been bad as far as trucking is concearned, there is plenty of freight comming in but little going out, comming in the pay isent to bad but going out it is rediculess i dont even bother, when im ready to load i dead head to atlanta then go from there why because i dsont work for free .
but that is the way it is in fl. always has been unless you haul produce and i dont believe i want to go back to produce.

If you reside anywhere from Miami to west palm beach, Id say your best bet would be to get on with a container outfit. There's not much money in it, but it appears regoinal so you'd be home more than if you were otr. I very rarely see many reefer or flatbed outfits with a Florida city on the door when I'm in Miami.

Lots of freight going in, not much going out.
Shippers down there know this and they play carriers off against each other for the best rate.
Unfortunately, too many morons in this biz willing to work/haul for $0.
This is why alot of carriers won't hire from Florida because it's difficult (and sometimes an expensive deadhead) to get you home.
Now then, if you want to get into produce or food grade tanker...several reefer/tanker outfits based/run out of the sunshine state.
Bynum, Indian River, and Oakley are two that come to mind.
Jim Aartman (now part of Ruan) out of CA used to run juice from FL to CA and up to Wisconsin.
Keep in mind that the pay generally sucks, the deadlines are tight, and dealing with produce is a real PITA.
If I were down there, I'd try to get on with an LTL or fuel-hauling outfit.
That's probably your best bet.
I wouldn't go to the ports...unless you speak fluent Spanish and willing to work 14 hour days for $25k. -
WOW Paddington I had no idea so little was moving out. I live in GA and will keep this in mind as I start my job.
