I took it to mean just what he said.
You work a week and they hold that check.
You work a second week and then you get your first check.
My payroll ends weekly on Sunday midnight and that weeks check is in my account at midnight the following Wednesday

One company (JBH) paid instantly when your 5th wheel hooked on to trailer and sent the payroll to your qualcomm within 5 minutes for that run minus withholding etc. All you had to do was decide how you want it. Direct deposit to wife how much, cash etc.

They can fire you if you did not deliver like you were supposed to do Mr Driver. =)

It eliminated instantly all the hungry waifs asking for money via comchecks and going into debt etc. Until they have to be fired.

Agreed. I was a mech. engineer/project manager for 16 years. Got paid once a month on the last working day of the month. Paid all of my monthly bills FIRST and budgeted the rest for the rest of the month. Was difficult the first few months, then it was super easy. But then again I was salaried.

And yes, I went an entire month with no pay. To the OP, almost ALL companies in ALL industries withhold pay for a week or two.

If you work Monday through Friday and get paid the following Thursday I don’t see the problem in that. Isn’t that pretty standard?

Part of the reason is people don’t return fuel cards, paperwork, keys, trash the truck, etc and the company needs to be able to deduct from these losses.

If you're talking about J B Hunt, I think somebodies smoking something! I worked there 8 years and never got paid that way! They paid you once a week for anything that you turned in from the previous week.

9-11 was the ultimate problem we trucked 6 weeks without any pay, using our existing savings in addition to a 9000 dollar contracted room replacement from storm damage.

Govt Shutdown? Meh. Aint nothing at all. That truck keeps rolling. No unemployment needed or wanted that time. We had enough on hand for 4 months but it was good that it all got taken care of in time before then.
