I'm sure the question has been asked before but I'm wondering what you guys use for Trucking accounting.
I was going to get QuickBooks but I've been looking into some software that is specific to trucking. I'm not sure what exactly is necessary for a one truck owner operator without any employees with own authority.
It would be nice to have a software that can do everything from track expenses and do invoices and track accounts receivable and ifta miles, empty and loaded miles inspection reports, and show specific expenses per load.
Is there something like that for a one truck operation or would a QuickBooks type setup be better?
I also see some of them are desktop and some are cloud-based and I guess some are both? Not completely sure of the difference.
I like the idea of being able to snap a photo of any receipt and upload it and the same with a BOL that I can make a quick invoice and send right there on the road.
What have you found to work well for you?

I use quick books and let's truck. You really only need one. But I use both as quickbooks isnt setup really for trucking but is linked to my bank. I'm setup as a LLC-scorp so I need the payroll of quickbooks. I use let's truck cause its setup for trucking. I think in pay idk $40 total for them both. Not expensive
Dino soar Thanks this. -
I use Let's Truck Store, It's called Profit Gauges and it's 19.00 a month. Easy to use and thy have a great support staff if you need help. Thy also have fuel gauges and it's free if you want to track fuel mileage.
Phantom Trucker and Dino soar Thank this. -
Fogline Software looks like they have a pretty comprehensive truck specific software program for owner operators.

Update...
Fogline software will allow you to download their program but it's not the full version. You can use it for about 2 weeks.
You have to watch the training videos to really understand what you can do with it. So far I really like it.
The main difference between that and something like Quicken or QuickBooks is that the Quicken products automatically load your expenses in through whatever credit card you have listed and I think through your bank account itself also.
The fogline software you have to scan everything and enter it in. And you have to keep track of your mileage empty deadhead state lines and all of that and enter that as you go or at a later date.
What I like about it is it's pretty simple to use if you watch the videos. If you use it the way that they say, you will positively know your loaded miles, empty miles, ifta miles, your cost per mile, you will have nice neat vehicle maintenance reports, profit and loss statement, and all of your information sorted so that you can do your taxes. There are a lot of different reports that you can pull up.
It's easy to track Brokers shippers receivers, and it gives you reminders for unpaid invoices and maintenance.
I'm sure there is more that I'm not thinking of, but it's so truck specific that I think it's better than Quicken or QuickBooks.
You have to run it on a laptop, so if you want to do billing immediately, you either have to have a scanner with you or you can snap a photo that turns into a PDF and send that through your email to your laptop. As long as you have an internet signal you can send your invoice as soon as you have the bill of lading.
I also like that the owner of the company got right on the phone with me and answered every question that I had. He said that they are trying to work on for next year integrating it so that the information can get uploaded into Quicken products.
He even followed up with me through email after I downloaded the program to make sure I didn't have any problems.
And once you buy the software every update is free.
