Wow....between the lack of ability to excercise and the low moral...I can see this being true...wow...
It really causes you to think...is it really worth it?
Is a career in trucking worth 15-10 years of your life...? -
Low moral?
Talk about digging up old threads...... -
Wow. I have maybe 10 to 15 years yet to live...... Oh I think that this is the big one....

Easy fix: all sleeper cabs should come equipped with a chin-up bar and speed bag.

It would be nice to see the TS with work-out facilities available
Give up a few pinball machines and video 8 liners for better health options to Drivers.Lady K, GAPrincess, Sonbell and 1 other person Thank this. -
But when you think about it, the average driver just in the course of the day, probablly burns more calories than the average 9-5 cubicle worker...
for instance...
1. driver has to walk to restroom at rest area...and back...
2. driver parks...and then has to walk all the way into truck stop...and back...
3. driver parks...and has to walk into shipper and back...and once inside...may have to walk even more to find someone.
4. Driver has to unhook trailer and lower dolly...
5. Driver has to open doors...may have to climb inside to secure frieght...
6. Driver may have to sweep out trailer
So I guess there are a few things drivers do that do burn calories...but I guess not enough obviously... -
I'm in the process of chopping up a pullup bar with dip station and fitting it in my 98 international. Maybe I post some pics during process. This along with the air climber and the tower 200. I've thought this out quite a bit and I'm sure I can make this work. Only issue really is motivation. I'm going to post this in a new thread to see if I can get some feedback.

All I know, is since I've stopped driving OTR full time...I've dropped weight...noticablly...and can slip into jeans again
that I couldn't just 2 months ago...again amazing and revealing...
You don't realize how much you consume (or don't care) while sitting, driving, for up to 11 hours a day or more...and then when not driving...laying around in truck or bunk...
No excercise what so ever...
My weight has dropped just from everyday activity, like walking, bike riding, yard work...and just not eating or snacking constantly all day long...
I also notice many drivers are plagued with diabetes...which is often brought about do to lack of excercise, and poor eating habits...
I feel slim and trim again, or should say am slim and trim again, just by not being cooped up in the truck 24/7...
I can only imagine the accumalitive effects of doing that for 3-10 years non stop...Last edited: Mar 14, 2011

On a side note, an owner operater tried to sell me a job where I'd get like 2500-3000 miles a week...Monday thru Saturday, in and out of ports...
To me, I saw it as a death trap...not just health wise, but mental health wise too...
I've done that before, and watched myself slip into a state I'm no longer interested in slipping into anymore...
All you do is eat, cause your so bored, always alone, always around people who could care a rats blah blah about you...
It's like living in a cave all alone...and the worse you feel, the more you spend, so that in the end your blowing $200-$300 a week on nothing...
After a while your looks begin to deteriate, stop shaving, your clothes become ragged and dirty, and you stop careing...cause your only out of your truck for minutes at a time...
I value my life more than to hop into such a deadning scheduale again...
This is what happens to your body as you stay behind the wheel for years at a time..
A big belly will lead to bad posture...don't let it happen to you...Last edited: Mar 14, 2011
