Unfortunately, all too often I see the same thing where truck stops offer chapels/services. I've personally attended some of these services and I must be honest. While most do a good job of telling of God's love and the sarifice made on the cross on our behalf, I have never attended one where the true way to redemption and salvation is made. And I've never attended a service where an alter call has been offered. This is not to say it doesn't happen, I'm just saying that maybe some of the chapels are missing the mark. Please don't get me wrong. I thank God there are ministries out there for us. I need to hear the gospel as much as anyone. I'm just suggesting that something may be lacking, because if I were not already a christian I doubt I would be led to the Lord through some of these ministries. Afterall, isn't that the main purpose of evangelism. JMHO.

I've known a few good chaplains over the years that had a true calling . The best one was Reggie Pelletier in the basement of the Trucker's Inn in Jessup , MD back in the 80's . He was well known and the room for his bible studies would be full and people would be standing outside in the hallway . Unfortunately , a local ministry came in to "help" and within a few months took over and moved him out . Bob Hazlett and his wife Joyce worked with Transport For Christ and started out in CT then went to Flynn's Truckstop in Shrewsbury , MA . I lived near there and helped him find support and volunteers . Bob and Joyce had a true calling with spiritual gifts that enabled them to have a very effective ministry . David Burch was a full time flatbed O/O and served weekends at a chapel east of Owensboro , KY . He didn't have many drivers come through there but he had a lot of willingness and potential . I got out of contact with him and was shocked to read his obituary last year . I had seen his truck parked for sale a few months earlier .
A lot of people volunteer for chapels because they think it is a good thing to do . Their intent is good but it's like trying to rebuild an engine with no mechanical background . God calls people and equips them with spiritual gifts to do the job . Not enough people respond to the call .
