I'm not sure where this thread belongs but here goes.
I drive down I-80 a lot and was thinking I might want to go through that Great River Road thing they built over the interstate near Kearney, Ne........only problem, no truck parking.
Nebraska spends a lot of money and gives a bunch of speeches about attracting tourists yet, alas, there is nowhere for the million truck tourists who might want to see that attraction to pull over,....actually it looks like they discourage it.
In my experience this is pretty common throughout the country. I can see them not wanting to clog up prime real estate with a bunch of trucks, but how hard would it be to pour a slab and put up one of those limited facility truck-only places within walking distance to some of these wilderness attractions?
Would you spend your money if something like this was available? Seems to me there are a lot of bored drivers who would.

Truck drivers are dirty, promiscuous serial killers. Why would they want that kind of riff-raff in their town?

I drive across I-80 not down.

When your driving a truck your working, not on vacation.
Why should the state pay for you to have happy time while your working?Truckergirl0720, icsheeple and Longarm Thank this. -
A slab for a few "tourist truckers" instantly turn into a cluster F of trashy truckers who squat there for half-days, sometimes longer. Hell, you gotta know that some trucker(s) will use the slab for home-time parking.
The amount of base and concrete necessary to handle heavy trucks making hard u-turns is enormous and not exactly cheap. Then add in all the constant clean-up efforts and costs required to keep the place half way presentable each morning.joshuapowell61, Canned Spam, icsheeple and 5 others Thank this. -
Then again a few more truck stops, rest area's, vista points, view area's, road side tables, picnic pull outs, fishing near by, tourism to do's with all the bells and whistles, shuttles while patrolled wouldn't hurt.

I did lot's of tourism & sight seeing with my trucks, always manage to find a spot to park my rigs sometimes i had to pay sometimes i had to ask management but where there is a will there's a way.

Gotta thank all the guys that don't know what a garbage can is, for our lack of parking. Just my two cents
Cottonmouth85 and Ougigoug Thank this. -
They already have these rest areas, just not by the attractions. How hard could it be.
Also, I don't see the pigs on wheels in my area nearly as much as some other parts of the country.
