Anyone use a GPS for Android that is specific for trucking? Does Garmin have an app you can purchase instead of the device itself? I am reading that Copilot has an app, but the app I see in the Google Play Store just shows the regular Copilot, not the one for trucking.

Why not just buy the physical trucker-specific GPS from Garmin or Rand-Mcnally? I got 4 plus years out of my RM 740 and it was worth it. Get the 5 inch version if you want to save money. Lots of the info you need while driving comes from listening to it speak info. Also, the 5 inch screen models are a lot easier to mount in some places.

I used to use Copilot mainly because I could just pay a small monthly fee ($9.99/month) I think and at the time money was too tight to pony up hundreds of dollars for a Rand Mcnally or Garmin. It worked pretty well. As I recall you download the app and then tell it what vehicle you are using and it will download truck appropriate info at that time. I stopped using it mainly because now I do regional dedicated and I go the same places all the time so don't need a gps.

I might try to download Copilot to see if it still does that, ie be configured as a trucker GPS. Since I jump from Truck to Truck, I can't easily mount the big GPS. I need something on the go. Also my hearing aids do stream from my phone, but will only do 2 devices and there isnt room to add this garmin gps.

Looks like Copilot has tons of bad reviews after they make many changes users didn't like. I will find a way to use the company provided Garmin.

Sorry to hear that. It has been a couple years since I used it so maybe it has changed. I think they used to have a short free trial (like maybe 7 days). If they still do it might be worth checking it out.

The problem with the major brands seems to be hardware durability. I use a good quality tablet with data along with the SmartTruckRoute app.Its based off google maps, but configurable for trucks and busses. Has satellite view and all. Works very well and is updated constantly. At one time, you could try it for free with all features active for an hour every day to see if you like it. Don't know if they still do or not, so check their website
