Need some help here folks. Ive been asked to help set up a truck specifically for taking CDL Road Tests to gain a CDL A.
Are there specific minimum length requirements for the trailer? Just as long as its got air brakes? How about a 20' container chassis, will that work?
Can a medium duty 26K truck be used as well?

why would you want someone to test in a little truck if they are going to get into a Sleeper with a 53' trailer?

As long as it is a combnation vehical with air brakes you are good to go. A medium duty truck (26,001 k )
can be used as long as you have a trailer and air brakes. -
If your testee is used to backing up a 53 footer, a 20 foot container will make them look like a fool! Don't ask me how I know this!

I don't think a container chassis is big enough, weight wise. I believe the front box of a set of doubles is good enough. The front trailer of a set of bottom dumps is OK in Ca. Class 8 and 7 power for sure. Best to use a day cab and 27' pup. (flatbed if possible).

The trailer must be rated at 10,000 GVWR or higher. Length doesn't matter. If Power unit does not have air brakes and is not rated to haul a trailer heavier than 10,000 GVWR, restrictions will apply.
Kansas Thanks this.
