I just got asked to do a recovery for my company. I told them I thought $200 a day would be fair. (That is less than what I can make a day.) They told me that was too much and they would get someone else to do it. So what are other companies paying for a driver to go do a recovery?

It depends, someone was high out of thier gord kicking a soccer ball around in a dirt lot near a terminal. I got payed 50$ to drive 2 miles,,, the cops were just watching the guy amused lol. But we have actual wreckers as well and those guys get payed double.
G13Tomcat and bottomdumpin Thank this. -
I think that is a fair price myself.
Who knows what condition the truck is.....I once recovered one that the driver whizzed in the floor and smeared crap on the drivers seat! That was worth 200 a day for dang sure!
Had to plastic wrap the seat, clean the steering wheel, shifter and all....Nasty!
They paid me 250 for the 650 mile round trip...(half the miles in a rental car)G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
I'd hate to do recoveries on a regular basis. No telling what you'll find in terms of nasty or illegal substances.
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
I'd want NO LESS than what I make on a regular day. Why should you accept less??
canadianredneck, ramblingman, Moosetek13 and 7 others Thank this. -
I'd ask for more than what you make a day. You're a driver, not a repo man. I've done a little of this myself and as others said, you never know what you are getting yourself into until you get there. And sometimes the driver or previous owner is still lurking around or it might even be on private property. I've had guns pulled on me and cops called on me so there is also a certain level of danger involved as well. I've never repossessed a tractor just dually's and straight trucks. People leave garbage everywhere, leave em in bad areas of town. I've even shown up to all flat tires, batteries dead and or gone, all the fuses pulled from the fuse box and one time a guy even cut off the clutch pedal. Luckily there was enough of the metal bar to get it in gear so I could stop and start. $200 a day is definitely fair. If they pay a wrecker to bring it back they'll have to pay their call out fee for showing up and then who knows what per mile/hr
canadianredneck, EZ Money and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
My thoughts? I grew up in Florida in the 70'S / 80'S.... it's changed a LOT so i hear. Not for the best, a lot of "cheap labor!"
If they get someone LEGAL to do this under $200 it'd be a miracle!~ -
I agree on getting around what you would make in a day for pay, my company has asked me to do things other than my norm, and have never asked me to take less
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
I have never had a bad experience recovering a truck.
I did it once.
I was to drive to a certain place where the truck had been dropped off to pick it up, then drive it back to a terminal.
I would then be driven back to my own truck.
I got paid miles, just like I normally do.
I got lucky in that the last driver of that truck left it very clean, inside and out. -
A few weeks won't produce a skeleton.
It would be nasty, though.joseph1135 Thanks this.
