I'm heading from Toronto to California later today. My last stop will be Santee, California on Thursday and I will need to reset leading into the Memorial Day weekend.
Does anyone know where I would be able to park the tractor/trailer in the area for a couple of days while I visit with family?
Thanks, Glen.

You didn't say where. Otay
Mesa Truck Stop on El Cajon is near Santee. However, No one will let you park and leave your truck unattended even overnight. You could be subject to towing if they notice you've parked and left your truck unattended. That's a big "no-no". You must check and see if they will charge a fee and if it's okay with them. You can park your truck for free in an area zoned for industrial or semi industrial and your truck should be okayed. There are some areas like that off 905, otay mesa road in Chula Vista. Take 805 south, 905 east exit and get off the second or third exit. You'll be in a new industrial zone and if you park your truck on one of the side streets it should be fine. There's also a brand new Pilot truck stop but it will fill up early. You will be close to the San Ysidro border crossing and trolly stop. Option #2 is to park your truck on the street near or where you will be staying. If it's strictly residential zoned you could get a ticket, but if there is enough room, you don't block traffic and no one complains you should be alright. Otherwise look for another street where other trucks park and you can park your truck there and check on it periodically.Last edited: May 15, 2015

I wouldn't park my truck unattended at the pilot much less on the sides streets. You're a hop and a skip from the border so don't be surprised if you come back to you're truck and it's on blocks.
dannythetrucker Thanks this. -

Ok I guess we agree to disagree. After 18 years of driving local in Southern California I've seen and experienced too much and have become a little jaded.
I personally would never leave my truck unattended in that area. That's just me. -
Swift designates that entire area as a high risk area.
If you have to leave your truck, leave it at the Pilot and make sure your curtains are closed. At least it will look like someone is home. Try to park near the front.
But if anything happens while you are away, your company WILL hold you responsible.
That Pilot is not new. It has been there for years.
It is also a little drive from Santee.
I would stress to you - do NOT park your truck on any side street! Even with you in it, it might be long gone before you woke up - if you ever did again.
That is one of the worst areas in the country for truck theft. -
Hmmm. I guess I stand corrected. I would not leave my truck at the Pilot under any circumstances. You could also park your truck at the Super 8 but you will have to pay for motel room. I think that's what I would do, stay at a cheap motel near Santee or El Cajon. That way the manager can kind of keep an eye on your truck. You can try these truck parking placed:
Delta Truck Parking 619 690 7992.
8468 Airway Blvd
San Diego, CA.
Or Calif. Truck Parking 619 862-9695.Last edited: May 21, 2015
