A few states are starting to open up and add parking for truckers as a safe haven 24/7. The question i have is are these a good place to stop at and do you trust DOT to not be trying to hassle you in these places?

when i did my training. my instructor said to NEVER park at the scales.
since i was a rookie, i wasn't going to argue. but still follow her advice to this day. -
i always advise everyone never to park at the scales
then i know i always have a place to park77smartin, CargoWahgo, Buckeye91 and 12 others Thank this. -
They are not my first choice, or second.
In fact I've never parked at one.
But I think if DOT made problems for drivers we would have heard a LOT about it.
I have heard of more problems in rest areas than any weigh station.
My first choice is always a place I can get a cup of coffee when I wake up.lv gn Thanks this. -
Parking is normally in an area PAST the scale so when you are done with your break you can just drive off with no hassle. I guess if you have something glaringly wrong with your truck it would give DOT staff one extra chance to spot it but as a rule I don't think you are any more or less likely to get a hassle at a scale lot.
I try to avoid parking at the scales just due to the fact that you are going to hear highway and truck scale traffic the whole time during your break. -
Kentucky has large parking areas right at the scales... and at midnight say on I65 near the Tennessee border, you can count on the truck stops near Franklin KY to be overflowing... you know the situation, trucks parked everywhere including the fuel island, blocking the scales, making it almost impossible to get in and out of the place. So, I've frequently parked at the scales there, watched the Kentucky state cops open the coop in the morning, line the trucks up. I've even had trucks parked next to me with a Kentucky state cop going over THEIR truck with a fine toothed comb.
Got out, did my pretrip, chatted with the cop, went on my way. NEVER BEEN HASSELED. So guys, if you need a place to park in that part of the world, don't be worrying about it. They'll leave you alone.
If your logbook and truck can survive an inspection every day you run down the road, you shouldn't worry anyway...
But if I were a cop, I'd be givin' ol' Cranky Pete the rubber hose treatment just for general principles!joseph1135, newbietrucker007 and 48Packard Thank this. -
Wisconsin allows parking too, no idea about harassment, never parked there.

The times that the hubby has parked at one of the scales, he has never been hassled either. You can park in a rest area in NY and wake up to the dot doing inspections in the lot, never bothered there the one time either at least.

Weigh stations are my choice in south Denver and north st louis. Feels safer.
Its always fun when you wake up surrounded by cones.
