If you've been to the restaurant at the Bolingbrook I-55 truck stop, you've been to the restaurant here in Sioux City, IA.
Over priced. Small portions. The salad bar had a nice variety, though.
Now I understand why it was so empty inside every time I was in there.
Monday through Friday they offer specials. Today was all you can eat Beef and noodles. I figured, hey why not? Why not, indeed. They operate in a truck stop. I was expecting a truck stop sized portion. Plus beef and noodles isn't that expensive to make. What they brought out to me was a salad size plate with a smaller dish on top. I think I counted 2 pieces of beef in there. I ordered a re-order and again, the small dish on the salad-sized plate. This time I think I got just one piece of beef.
"Where's the beef?!"
For $8, which included a dinner roll and the soup/salad bar, I'm sorry, that was a rip-off.
First let's talk about the dish it was served in. Seriously? How skimpy are you trying to be with your portion sizes? You operate in a truck stop! Secondly, what's wrong with just putting it on the plate it was served on? Why are you trying to present a comfort food like it's some higher end restaurant? Again, you operate in a truck stop! Thirdly, $8 for a dish of noodles in beef gravy with two small pieces of beef? You're not a bistro, you're a restaurant in a truck stop!
Breakfast was a summer sausage skillet with two eggs and either toast, biscuit or little pancakes. Portion size here was okay. Not too much, not too little. With a drink though it came out to a little over $10. That's a little pricey, don'tcha think?
Late night dinner yesterday was a reuben sandwich, which was good. Came with fries. Fine. A side order of onion rings was $4.75. Are you kidding me?! For that price you better be slicing a fresh onion and hand-dipping them in batter that's less than a day old.
I don't want to think about how old the pies are. I only bought a slice because you don't find strawberry-rhubarb everywhere. It was either left out a little while or not wrapped tightly because it had absorbed some smells of other food and once again, over-priced.
I hope that was my last trip to Sioux City...
