How would one go about doing this? My insurance guy said I should have one because to me the truck has a certain value it should be worth should something bad ever happen.
I have it at 20k now but he said if I go much higher I should have one because insurance companies will only see 1988 Peterbilt 362 and not real world value nor will a agent be able to properly decide it after the fact.
Truck appraisal?

@wore out or @Largecar359 or @W900AOwner should be able to help.
Mattflat362 Thanks this. -
When I was running my older trucks I had the values raised on both. If I hit a deer or something they would be less likely to total my truck. I had $45k value on my 95 KW. But if it would’ve gotten totaled out I would’ve only received “market value” and not $45k.

Call appraiser to give you a true value. I do it with my '41 IHC which would other wise fetch $200 if totalled.
Have receipts or be able to tell appraiser exactly what all work has been done whether its a shop or yourself. Make a list.
Your insurance will cost a bit more since a '88 Pete is worth a few thousand dollars at best without appraisel on a good day with plenty of whining and fist pounding.Mattflat362 and Tug Toy Thank this. -
You have to get an appraisal done by a bonefied appraisal guru. Sometimes Peterbilt and similar places have one. If its more sentimental value then that's sorta like a separate policy. If the appraisal is within a certain age they pretty well go off it. If you don't have one it gets nasty I know from my little wreck 16 months ago. Also some insurance companies do thing's a little different when it comes to stated value and ACV or actual cash value. Get it worked out now after the fact is too late
Mattflat362 and Long FLD Thank this. -
Yep that is what I am thinking of....something relatively small happens and they want to total it out.
If actually gets totaled I am dead anyway. LOL.
I just don't want someone to hit me of a I hit a deer or a elk and they say sorry bud it's totaled but in reality is is 5 or 10k to fix.
So dealership maybe? I'll give them a call maybe but I would prefer another option. -
If something relatively small happens you don't get it totaled out..... you don't file a claim!
No claim , no total !
.Mattflat362 Thanks this. -
I have my value jacked up (08 @ 45k) because of 12K worth of Pto crap hanging on the truck.... I know if something ever happens I’m gonna get F’d...Mattflat362 Thanks this. -
That's what insurance is: you pay a bunch of money n hope nothing ever happens bc they gonna #### you out of whatever you paid in.
Insurance companies don't have all them big fancy buildings with trees on the roof bc they pay out top dollar on claims.lynchy, W900AOwner, Tug Toy and 5 others Thank this. -
I read a article once about how much money State Farm has control of. I can't find it now.....it was an insane amount of money (high billions).
