Hello,
My company truck is a 2016 with 45k miles. The truck seems to pull to the right. I find myself with the steering wheel turned slightly to the left to counter it. If I'm going down a straight highway and let go of steering wheel the truck will cross the solid white line on my right within 2-3 seconds.
The shop has done an alignment they said and told me it's normal for the truck to pull to the right for safety reasons.
Does this sound normal for a truck? My wrists get sore after hours of countering.
How far can your truck go straight before crossing the right solid line?
Trying not to be a pain in the ### to shop but it's my biggest pet peave. Just don't know if it's supposed to be like this.

I'd ask the shop to give you a printout of the specs on the truck versus what the manufacturer says.
I've had a shop in Abq do an alignment on several KW T800's and those guys are awesome. Trucks ALWAYS track straight as an arrow assuming a good road and they also leave a printout from their alignment machine in the cab showing before and after readings and manufacturer specs.
A lot of roads have a crown built into them, it slopes from the center to the right shoulder, the reason is that it helps dissipate rain / snow on the road surface and directs it to the shoulder. That may be a cause in some areas, but if the truck is actually that bad, then I would reexamine the shop that did it and maybe considering having your company send it somewhere else for another alignment. Pulling to one side for "safety" sounds like a ######## excuse for a shop that didn't know what they were doing.rocknroll81, Chewy352, heyns57 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have a KW T660. It pulls to the right but not as fast as yours. Maybe 8 seconds. I don't buy the safety aspect of pulling to the right and I have heard that one said many of times. 8 seconds isnt too bad for me. I can usually get food from the sleeper and return to seat in about 6 seconds.

no truck veers off to either side for "safety"...what a bunch of garbage. have you spoken to the shop manager of this, and told him the story you were given.??
i have seen trucks veer off to one side or another, due to the drives being slightly off. if i can remember the part that had to be replaced on mine, i'd tell you, something about a yoke bearing, of some sort... -
I just went to the shop manager and he is telling me it's because of the crown in the road.
I went to the safety dept. and asked her and she told me the same thing. She said if the shop checked it its good. It's the crown of the road that causing it to pull. She told me to check the wear on the tires and notify the shop if they start to wear unevenly.
If I take it to freightliner, can I ask a mechanic to test drive it for me? -
since after all, trucks are wider than our cars, you may never really get a level road
you certainly can take it to the dealership, should be covered under warranty. -
you are in a company truck, the company sets the standards. So long as it is within their standards, they will not change it. And the dealership will do the same thing, lift it up put the tools on it, and say yep it is within the standards.
A truck will track straight, if aligned to an as driven alignment. Otherwise, do the the wide tolerances used on the rack, and the crown of the road, you will pull to the right. -
One way to check. Find a straight stretch of 4 lane that you are pretty sure has a crown on the zipper. Run the right lane and see how long it takes to cross the white line. Then, next time through, run the left lane and check how long to cross the yellow line. If your alignment is true, it should take close to the same amount of time for either lane. Wind, tire pressure, etc will affect your results. But like @TLeaHeart said, a company truck will be within company tolerances. Not necessarily manufacturers tolerances.

Just to update. I had one of the safety department people test drive the truck and confirmed there is definitely something wrong.
They will look at it tomorrow and I'll update with their results.
