If all you want to do is haul crap off a load board there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to pick and choose yourself

I get calls from these services and the first any of us ask, what direct work do you have and prove it. If they don't, the phone gets disconnected.

    NorthEastTrucker and SlimGoodyNC Thank this.

I need to retract any statements that I previously made about Dispatch Services be alright. NO!..double that 'No', don't use them. They will cost you more money than they're worth especially the ones who speak broken English. Most are using English names now operating as though they're in North America but overseas. Its a risk to use these fraudulent companies. The one comment I read on these forums about this was, 'Once they hear an accent on the phone' they hang up. Best advice yet regarding Dispatch services. You will save more with the little extra work calling Brokers yourself.!

Older thread but here's some load board broker shopping advice for eager young shiny new authorities.
    Due diligence...
Outstanding rate on their load? Red flag. Check their ratings. None, red flag.
    How old is their authority?
Do they have a phone number or just an email? Phone, that's good, but as stated you hear an accent just hang up.
    Only email, red flag.
    Gmail account, HUGE red flag...
And if all these check out and they seem legit, check to see how many other brokers have the same exact load within $100... Double brokering is illegal, not fictional. And if you call and they seem all too eager to give you the moon and stars on this amazing load, hang up.
You have to do your homework in this game and even after all that occasionally you will get burned.
Like others, you can try for direct shippers and bypass the middle man. But remember what you're asking for. Instead of a one time broker who's a pain in the ### and takes 30 days to pay, you now have a shipper who may be as big of pain, still takes 30 days, but you've dedicated yourself to doing them the best job you can over and over... Some other broker or cheap truck will be more than happy to take them off your hands.

There's no free lunch in this industry.

    Cdemars316 Thanks this.

I'm bettin conversation has never once gone past that question. I just hang up when I hear "Hello, is this........(pronouncing my company name wrong with a thick accent)"

    NorthEastTrucker Thanks this.
