Tria axle dump capacity

    I am.in the dfw area. i am looking to buy this tria axle western star. has 18k steer axle 20k pusher and 46k rears. i will be looking at the truck friday and inspectioning it. how can i determine the max weight capacity of this tri axle for texas. empty weight is 25500. thanks

    Well, on tri-axles MD allows 70k, and NJ allows 80k IIRC.

    I just stumbled across an older thread where apparently TX goes by the Bridge Formula for dump trucks, so you'll have to measure your wheel base and check it against the Bridge table to find your max. gross.

    NY uses the bridge formula also.
    Max Permitable is based on wheelbase.
    actual Permit will be the lower of either sum of axle rating or max permitable.
    Also ,if I remember rite, an individual axle limited to 20K max, tandem limited to 47.5K max.
    Have to look up and read the rules in your running area.
