Why did they make installing belt so hard on these units? Have to have 2 people, one pushing on alternator while another is tightening bolt.
I've lost a new belt cause Thermo king employee didn't tighten it down right enough.

    Yours doesn’t have a turnbuckle?

No there's no turnbuckle. So you can only tighten belt as hard as you can push on alternator to put tension on the belt.

With a good belt, it shouldn't take much tension(gates K060478 good replacement, can get at any auto parts store) just basically taking up the slack. I use a big flat box wrench between the alt and the engine casting(barely fits, so I don't have to move it far). Is your APU going to standby when you start the truck? My standby wire got pulled off the ignition switch accidentally and nothing lasts long while the APU is running with the truck going down the road.

    Just some thoughts.

PS: thanks for the fuel filter video!

I stopped at petro and got Gates replacement belt and it seems to be bigger. It started squeaking when there's load on alternator.
I've got factory Tri pac belt on order
How's that tool supposed to work? Never seen anything like it, looks like harp from medieval ages.

Go a few milimeters smaller on the belt size then. For example, K060475.

The tool wraps around and hooks into the alternator so you can apply pressure with a 1/2” drive ratchet.

I have a tripac on my truck and I had an issue with it and the mechanic replaced the belt by himself so it can be done.

How do I remove lower side cover where muffler attaches to. Do I have to remove muffler to get it off?

You just have to remove the two bolts off the muffler bracket and let it hang. Then there are four bolts on the cover and possibly nuts on the inside, if the captive nuts have twisted off like mine have.
