Wait for Haulhand to reply, He had one before.
I got a buddy who just bought one for all the wrong reasons. To me they are not really worth the extra hassles unless you have a steady contract that will benfit having a tri drive. Extra weight/ costs with maintance. Hard turning..
Like I stated wait for Haulhand to reply

When I had mine......This is exactly what I thought too.
I saw no advantage to it myself, besides traction with the full lockers engaged. Think it's an advantage in Canada in places, but never took mine there to find out. If I was to ever go 4 axle truck again, it would be a lift.
Not sure exactly what you want to know, so maybe post up the specifics.

Really the only advantage is extra traction. We used ours off road in the mud and ice every wintry and could get places nobody else could but they are heavier than a 4 axle with a lift and as Carl stated hard to turn in slick conditions. The only place I've ever found where there was a weight advantage is in Alberta and Saskatchewan as they don't recognize a lift. I don't kno what your wanting to use one for but unless your wanting a truck that will eat up crappy conditions with a heavy load go for a lift axle.

Hi all. Re 4 axle trucks, are the lift axles a dead axle or live?? New to this topic.

    Thanks

Oh. What about places like Michigan where weight limits are much higher.

    Thanks

Lift axles are dead. And some that don't lift are dead as well like Carls freightshaker.

Yep, mine is a dead axle. The only way it lifts is dumping the air and chain the axle up.
I got it changed up now as the last ld. and then the ld. I'm getting this week is a light ld. also.
