I was a driver instructor at Ta for 16 yrs. I also have almost 2 million miles accident free. I also teamed with my fiance for 1 1/2 yr. I'm not into bashing companies or people, but I'm sick of the lies that Transport America dishes out. Ta considered me, one of there top senior drivers, so, I do know alot about this company. A new driver should know what he is up against before signing on. Transport America claims that teams get an average of 5700 mi. truth.... Lucky to get 4000 average. Weekly. They took .2cents off the top drivers two yrs. Ago due to bad economic times, recently gave back .1cent a mile to eveyone but the teams because supposably they make more miles. they use to pay a vacation into the last 25 weeks work, now they pay a flat 750 dollars a week, before taxes, so after taxes it is about an average 350 dollars, unfortunately you cannot afford to take the time off. they claim in gotruckers.com, that for every 7 consecutive days worked you get up to 48 hrs. you'd be lucky if you get 1 1/2 days off of work or every 2 to 3 weeks worked. if you wish to be a dedicated driver you also take a penny a paycut per mile. trucks are set at 62 miles per hour, if you wish for your truck to go 65 miles per hour which is the speed limit you also take a penny per pay cut per mile. if you wish to have an inverter in your truck to cut the costs of food, you must purchase there inverter from Ta at only 1000watts, at 100 dollars, they also charge you six dollars a week to have it in the truck. when they pay you they pay you by book miles, not hub miles, so the fact is you lose 15 percent of your paid miles. solo drivers are told 2800 to 3000 miles a week, not true actually 1800 to 2200 miles per week. that's why most drivers do not last until there second yr. Before they move on. transport america used to be a good company, but now the corporate office is only concerned with lining there own pockets with the drivers money. because it's the only way they can show profit 2 show the brokerage company goldner and han which owns transport america that they made a profit. Good company to start out 4 better company to move on from. my fiance and I moved on to find a smaller and better company, who cares about their drivers. Our individual pay increased by 400 dollars a week, alot less stress, and they pay us to work for them, not like Ta, where we payed for the privilege to work for them.

Good for you! Let these big company's deal with the students and rookies that wont get the proper training to be succesfull. You are a rare bird that last that long at a big carrier like that.I did the same thing, though not training or for that long at a big carrier.Went to a small outfit and am still kicking my butt for working for jerks for as long as I did. When these big companys start changing your deal or screwing you over this and that,it's time to haul ### !

Transport America was great when James aronson the founder of transport America was running the co...he was very pro driver owner & took care of the drivers very well which I turn made the drivers want to work there.

I was with TA for 8 yrs and the last 6 months were hell. I left in 2003 so don't know how it is now. Is that worthless fat ### Charlie Evenson(think that was his last name) still there? He used to leave the most rediculous voice mails darn near every day.
What raely ticked me off was in 02 I bought my own truck and was told that my senority started all over again. My 8 yrs as a company driver meant nothing. Being a glutton for punishment I called them back after being gone for six months and was told I was approved for rehire. This was on friday and couldn't attend orientation for a week, no big deal. On thurs before I was supposed to be in orientation on Mon, I started calling to find out about getting a temp tag for my truck so I could get there. On fri about 4:30 after several calls they call me back and say that I'm no longer approved for rehire.
It turned out to be the best thing for me as I've been with my current company since Dec 1,2003 and I love it.

What company are you and your wife driving for now? I am looking for a great company to team drive for. The smaller, the better as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for your input!

I wonder why Wpiktel just signed in for one Post, left and never came back. I found his post because I wanted to learn more about TA... I believe we all have more questions about his claims. I have been watching on youtube, "J Canell", this wonderful driver for TA and I had not seeing him say anything like that about TA. - I don't know this company, so, maybe all that Wpiktel says is true. But again, he sounds a little "revenging" kinda, don't you think? - Any ways, would be nice if he would come back to The Trucker Report and feed our curiosity with more information, as well as to inform us about his new experience with the new company.

If a person can believe the OP had been with the company for 16 years...why wouldn't they believe the rest of his story? Obviously they were a "tolerable" company for him to stick around that long, and then they became "intolerable"---not difficult for ME to believe.
