Eaton 13sp. Got a whine(noise)( very faint, can barely here it)in transmission(I think). Oil level good color, good. Can this trans be rebuilt on the truck( from the back) or does it have to be totally remove from truck. Never did trans work. How hard is it remove from truck. What is estimated removal time? Freightliner cascadia i can do engine overhead work, adjust Jake's,injectors, etc,etc in my sleep. Never messed with transmissions

Some slight whine can be completely normal. Check magnetic plug and see if there’s any metal of sorts other than just wear metal in it. Transmission cannot be rebuilt in the truck it must be removed. Back box can be removed and repaired while transmission is still in truck. Pretty good job to R&R a unit for a folks first initiation to transmission work. I came to like doing it and jumped at chances to do bench jobs. When I used to be worth something. Used to pay 9 hours to replace a clutch in FLDs and such. Be a good idea to check for metal and make certain the correct oil, (50 wt synthetic), is installed.

If you get into that back box you better know what you are doing. Those gears need to be timed.

Re man transmissions are assembly line, tolerance replaced temporary fixes.
I have limited mechanical skills, but enough IQ to know it's not a task I would engage and learn on the fly if it was my sole income generator.Rubber duck kw Thanks this. -
You can't rebuild the trans from the back. You can rebuild SOME aux sections, but not all. Metric Fullers for example, the range fork is driven from the top plate of the main box, into the aux section.
The top plate has to be removed to remove the aux section. So pretty much not serviceable in truck.
Your RTLO, yes, you can remove the rear section. Is this truck new to you, or do you have quite a few miles on it?
Have you verified correct driveline angle?OLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this. -
Bought truck new. I know every noise it makes. I agree a noise can happen in the driveline And move up. However their has to be something internally because between 5&6 gear I have to wait a little longer to shift misses a gear. Like it's not building enough pressure(o ring). If their was a whine in the power divider it would have let go major catastrophic. Prior experience on previous truck.. Their are no good transmission shops where I'm at 1hr south of Chicago. If you know of one let me know. This is a emergency job.

Whine in all gears or just in OD? How many miles on the truck…?

You may have multiple problems that have slowly come to light.
You turned the driveshaft and felt if it’s smooth or has resistance….? -
Smooth, typical gear slap with the miles that are on it in my opinion
