After jumping up and down, it finally quit working, and i get no reading. Two questions. How do i test wiring, and do i need to drain tranny to replace sensor.

Sounds like a shorted wire. Need to drain just below sensor. On a fuel gauge can just take to ground and see if gauge is working. Should be able to do the same with temp gauge. I 've played with them and drawing a blank tonight.

You don't have to drain trans

Unscrew the old sensor and have new one ready to quickly screw back in .

You might only loose 1/4 pint.

The sensors themselves don't go bad as often as the wiring going to them. I would get someone to watch your gauge and go to ground with the wire going to the sensor first to make sure it is the sensor, and not the gauge or the wiring to the gauge.

Yup sounds like bad connection at the sensor or bare spot in the wire that was running and finaly broke.
