I just noticed my hood is digging into the brass fittings of my oil cooler. I'm going to have a shop bypass it all together. Should I be worried about the transmission heating up without it? Right now my temp never really goes up much at all.

Try replacing the rubber hood stop pads so the hood stays off of your cooler fittings.

Depends on how heavy you run and how much pulling you do in the mountains in the hot summer months.
Just bypass it if that's your intention and keep an eye on your temps. If all you do is 80,0000 5 axle work you'll be fine.

    Skate-Board Thanks this.

    Oh geez. Lol
Trans don't just blow up because of hot oil.
Lots trucks come from the factory with no cooler. It's an option.
If he has a lower hp rating and hauling light there not needed.

My last truck was a 379 Cat 13 speed. Oil cooler started leaking coolant internally.

If I remember correctly I used one of the oil hoses and looped it back to itself because it had a pump and never had any problems.

That w9 your driving will have the same crappy setup on it as the Pete did unless it has been changed. The best thing to do with those is to throw it on the scrap pile & mount a air cooled one. Those things aren't one of paccars best designs.

Thanks I should have added that info. The same thing was done to the W9 before I got it. Both trucks have a trans temp gauge and they have never got into the red zone.

They shouldn't get in the red when it is below zero for 8 months out of 12.

    Cetane+ and MJ1657 Thank this.
