I have a 2015 freightliner DD15 with automatic transmission. So I was driving and I hear a loud thud and the truck lost all power and I pull over . First I thought i blew a tire but I soon realized my whole transmission and drive shaft were hanging by a thread under my truck . This is a complete mess I’m sure the transmission is completely ruined as all the fluid leaked out.
My question is how the hell could my whole transmission fall loose ? My theory is back in January I spent close to $10k and got the automatic clutch replaced at the dealer . They must have missed a bolt or didn’t you use any thread locker when the bolted the the transmission back on ? Is freightliner responsible for this damage and do you think they will pay for this ?
I’m in complete shambles right now thanks for the support.
Transmission fell out of engine while driving .

Aye Carumba! In all my years, I don't think I've ever seen a transmission fall out. I always used thread sealant on ALL bolts. I think someone who did the work has some 'splanin' to do,,,

Believe it or not, I've seen many trannys fall out, or near fall out.
Yes, always has been the fault of bad repair. Doubt you'll get the dealer to agree.
Bad thing is, you should have noticed it, at least a symptom, like a vibration. They usually don't just fall out. Top bell housing bolts loosen, tranny starts tilting, eventually to the point of all bell housing bolts break and trans falls.
I could see it would be harder on an auto though to notice a coming failure. On a manual, driver notices clutch free play getting wonky, and definite noises and vibrations as the input shaft and clutch get crazy.
Did have a USA Truck driver way back though say there were no symptoms till the stick fell through the floor.

I had one happen on a pete.
New clutch, ran it for 3 months, noticed vibration.
got underneath and they’d stripped out the top most bolts and transmission was leaning down.
called a wrecker, towed to shop, they wouldn’t make it right, but would fix it, I then eased it a few miles to a kw shop, paid their price vs the other guy that did all my work like that.
Cost me another new clutch and a 13 speed transmission.Albertaflatbed, bzinger, Flat Earth Trucker and 3 others Thank this. -
Likely the bolts weren't properly tightened during the repair.
Its been 8-9 months since the work was done, it'll be very hard to pin anything on them because it could have easily been prevented had somebody crawled under the truck now and then to look things over (which should be done regularly).W923, Vampire, Albertaflatbed and 12 others Thank this. -
You think it’s going to cost me another clutch plus transmission ?Albertaflatbed Thanks this. -
