I was going to get one but they said it wouldnt be a good ideal on a reefer trailer unless I wanted to see the ice cream melt

For a regular dry van the translucent fibreglass is lighter than metal roofing. Allowing the light in makes visibilty much better when loading/unloading, under bright parking lot lights you can still see what you are doing at night.
And I found this hard to believe until I had one for a while, but they are actually cooler in the summer sunlight. You would think letting in some of the light would make them hotter, but the lighter color reflects more of the heat than a metal roof, and if you are stacking stuff close to the roof, you will never get burned from a translucent roof, like you can get from a metal one.
Yes, you must be careful that forklift drivers do not try and give you a convertible! I have had no trouble with hail stones up to marble size, but you do not want to go tree trimming with them either. Once torn or cracked it is important to find a repair shop that knows what they are doing to add a section or repair smaller spots.

We had issues with some shippers because of the heat in the summer time. We had both aluminum roofs and translucent fiberglass and the aluminum roofed trailers were cooler inside. I replaced the scuff boards in one trailer of each during the summer one day then the next. I can attest to the heat difference.

I am looking at purchasing a translucent roof trailer from a carrier who is down sizing. the only reason I'm considering it is because of the price. I was wondering if I could paint the roof, or line the interior roof with plywood to avoid the "will not load translucent roofs" stipulation of some shippers. What say you here. Thanks
