I am moving to Iowa next month due to wife's job transfer. I have a Washington State CDL. Do I have to take the written/skills test again? Thanks.

Your best bet is to call the state you are moving to and get it from them.
I say this because each state seams to be different ie: I just moved to N.C. from CT. and the only computer test I had to take was for motorcycle. All the CDL stuff class A, D&T, Tanker, HAZMAT was good to go from CT. Oh did need to take the eye test looking into the box, sign shapes & colors IIRC.
And yes I did call them to find out what was needed.
Dave ----truckon Thanks this. -
You got the DMV to answer the phone? You are the man!

Taken from here: http://www.iowadot.gov/mvd/driverslicense/newresidents.htm
If you have a valid out-of-state license, you must:
- Present acceptable proof of identity, residence and Social Security number.
- Not be canceled, suspended or revoked in any state.
- Pass a vision test.
- Pay applicable fees.
25(2)+2 Thanks this. -
Re: Hazmat
Before you leave Washington state, it would be a good idea to have in your possession your original birth certificate or a certified copy from your state health department. -
I saw that but it seems to apply to regular licenses not CDLs. For example, there is no mention of the DOT physical. I'm hoping someone who has actually transferred their CDL to Iowa can tell me what is required. I saw that in neighboring Illinois, you have to do EVERYTHING we did the first time all over again.

D.O.T. Physical has NOTHING to do with the DMV...and vice versa.
You will be required to present your D.O.T. Medical Certification to the state, or prepare to lose your CDL.
Here's that info.: http://www.iowadot.gov/mvd/CDL/mcRforCDL.html
P.S.- If you have HazMat...be prepared to travel to Cedar Rapids (regardless where you live in the state) in order to renew it when it expires. Linn County Sheriffs Office is the only facility in Iowa to accommodate the requirements. -
