I would say you went from "waiting for a load" to hometime which would break up your cycle in their system. Sitting for 8 days then next movement is heading home. Computers now-a-days make lots of decisions. I don't think having a baby is an emergency. You know the due date, yes I know, baby can come early. Question, did dispatch know you were coming close to having the kid ? And you were going to need time off, maybe that's why they kept you sitting instead of loading you then suddenly you need to get home.

It's definitely time to switch companies. You trying to get 800 dollars of layover pay is going to be difficult to impossible. From what I've heard, this is one of the ways TransAm trues to force drivers into leasing. I normally would say stick it out, but you can't make any money clearly so it's time to go.

If we take it face value as being entirely accurate of what you stated, and you’re not leaving anything out, man, I would be on my phone looking for a new company immediately. This is a classic scenario of where I tell new drivers. You have to learn how to stand up for yourself in this industry. That doesn’t mean acting crazy, but you have to have backbone when you’re getting pushed around and not treated right you need to say something, because it will happen again and again and again. I told drivers two things when you start with a new company that you need to establish. That your professional, courteous, punctual, you show up to do your job, and you expect the company to do the same for you. If they make promises, they have agreements on pay, they had better honor them. When they test you, and miss something on your pay or short, you on something, don’t scream and yell, but call them out on it immediately. This lets them know that you’re on top of things. And you’ll actually get more respect this way.

Where is your location; state & nearest city/town?
Time for you to jump ship and get a fresh start with a new company.
Exactly, how many months experience do you have? -
I never had a problem with my dispatcher there, but the safety dept is a whole other big story. Long story cut short, ALWAYS record your phone calls and if it's an important sat msg, take a pic of it with your cell phone showing the time and date. If needed they can erase on their end but there will be proof of those messages in Qualcomm's head office (or whoever they're using now)

And they used to say they had open door policy. IF Johnny Jacobson still has an office there, I would go straight to him and lay it all out. Bet he'd treat you right. Used to get good miles there, and I really liked the tobacco loads they used to get out of Winston-Salem. Go in for your paperwork and they would ask if you smoked, if yes then they would give you two packs of your brand of poison. I said I did but not the ones with filters, the guy looked at me and said funny you say that cause back in the seventies they had got all the machines and gear ready to sell that stuff if it went mainline. He pointed across the street to what looked like a big empty factory that was shut down.
