That year, an IH 4070A was one of the featured in-service vehicles displayed at Fleet Week in Chicago. It was operated by Crouch Bros. Inc.

super 10 transmissions had a problem of losing 3,4,7, and 8th gears and an update kit would have to be installed post-failure. If the tech performing this repair left worn bearings in place, this could let the countershafts "sag" as the bearings wore, essenientally throwing the thing out of time. A broken tooth could be the result, and explain the clunking noise. When exactly does the trans make this "clunk", at initial gear selection, or moving down the road? If it does it moving, in what gears? I doubt there is a problem in the power divider timing. If the input shaft endplay is excessive on the power divider, it could cause a clunk when you first try and take off, and maybe make some vibration in a pull-coast-holdback situation.

Have you had the fluids checked in the trans? If that tranny has a oil cooler the fitting would likely be on the bottom making it neccsarry to drain the oil to remove the lines and dropped the tranny out to replace the clutch, I've seen the installation of critical item like this during shift changes and things like refilling oil levels some how gets missed.

Check your motor mounts you can do this inside the cab looking at your gear shift knob slapping the clutch and foot on brakes. Drain some fluid out of the rear axle that had some work done to it.Mechanic could of left some chunks of metal behind.

Wow this is wierd that you posted this. I am having the same prob with my super 10. I have had a squeak problem for a few weeks i havent been able to narrow it down. I also feel that slack in the driveline like if i give it fuel somthings got play. From a stop when you let the clutch out do you get a small chirp or squeak from somewhere in the driveline?

Not sure if this will help but I recently lost my clutch. One day I was in city traffic and it was stop and go. One of the times I let the clutch out I got a wierd squeal chirp noise. Didnt think much of it. Couple weeks later heard similair noise so I started looking around. Opened inspection cover and didnt see any signs of where ie: metal shaving or anything else. Clutch was working fine. So almost a month later I was again in traffic first at the stop light let the clutch out and got all kind of funny noises lost the clutch.
Prior to this all happening I had been trying to figure out which U joint was goint out because I was getting a slap when I took off. Not sure if this is going to help but sounds similiar to what led up to my clutch needing done.

By the way just because a clutch is new doesnt mean its right. I have been told like anything else you can get either a bad install or just bad parts.
