How do I know my trailer's width? I looked at the registration certificate for the trailer I haul as well as the outside of it and cannot find the width mentioned anwhere. Should I use a tapemeasure to determine the width of my trailer? Do restriction signs usually indicate the maximum trailer width in feet, inches or both?

Tape it. Most restriction signs will read no 102's

Most newer trailers are 102 inches which is 8 1/2feet. Real old trailers may be 80 inches But I haven't seen one of those in years except in a scrap yard or used for storage. I cant remember ever seeing a 53 / 80 but doesn't mean they weren't made. most everything I see nowadays it 53 / 102 a few 48/102 in Refers maybe but I think most of them are 53 now. but carry a tape anyway because when you slide your axles you want to make sure you can still bridge it.
