I think laws vary from state to state, or what kind of day the trooper is having. In all my years, I never climbed on top of a wagon to remove snow. It's just one of the many hazards of driving. If it melts and refreezes, the ice flying off the top, can be a real hazard. Once in Ohio, I saw a car following a semi, that a large chunk of ice came off the top, and took out their windshield. Otherwise, like others say, let the bridge take care of it.

I never removed snow from any trailer. I know that states can and do write up tickets. My company actually forbids us to remove the snow, and they hire a contractor and he takes care of it.

If I ever were to get a job and it was told to me that snow removal IS MY responsibility? I'd be taking a walk on out. As an older driver, nearing retirement, I worry not about finding employment.

The stupid lawmakers make up insane laws with out fully comprehending the consequences. Like raising our taxes. If the lawmakers cannot balance a state or city budget, they think absolutely nothing of raises our taxes to cover thier short comings as a politician. I do not see too many lawmakers taking cuts in their pay raises, does anyone else? Why don't they lead by example? I'd like to see any one of them dopes that voted in such a law to clean of the top of a trailer, then tell us it is perfectly safe.

I hear that, its far from safe. But they worry about the safety of the public, truck drivers not included. There's always a chance a chunk of ice will his a vehicle,it happened with the trailer I was hauling,a pice of ice hit a bronco and shattered his window in MN.But I will not get on top of a trailer to remove snow and ice. It's impossible to keep the roof free of snow and ice.If the law makers wanna put a price on paying trk drivers extra then maybe but now,it ain't happening.

There's an old Chinese proverb that says, " When in a 4 wheeler, stay clear of trucks". Falling snow is citable in some states, but ice build-up on the landing gear is a problem too. Even a truck making a turn in town, some ice on the trailer roof can slide off onto a 4 wheeler sitting waiting to make a turn. It's called something like "poop happens". You take a risk when you leave your home and venture out into the world. A tree may fall on you, lightning may strike you, a car might drive thru a puddle and spray you ! You might even step in a wad of gum and can't get it off your shoe.

So I am west bound on I-70 coming up on the Eisenhower tunnel and a sign lights up, ".....Over Height Trailer...." and I thought to myself what Ha Ha Ha, what dummy is..........oh #%&*, that is Meeeee....... So I pulled over and a guy comes out with a ladder and a shovel and apologizes for tell me that I will need to remove the snow from the top of my trailer. After getting up there I never realized how high 13'6" really was. That 8.5' wide trailer was not very wide for some reason and it did not help that the snow had melted and froze again. After getting the snow and ice off the biggest challenge was getting down the ladder which now seemed to appear to be more like 6" wide. That was not a good night.

never did it, and if i still drove, never would , WAY TOO DANGEROUS....the crap they tell these younger drivers and get away with. i have always been outspoken even when i was younger and not one to put up with much. NO ONE is gonna make me do something unsafe. you want the snow off, remove it yourself..never got a ticket for it either
