I bought brand new trailer and I need registration.
My company is located in CA.
Can I register trailer in some other state (Maine, Indiana etc.)???
Permanent registration in CA is 9.7% of sale price.

Don't forget their arch enemy, MaineTrailer.com!

Yes, you can register trailers anywhere. Maine is the king though.

Don't forget you will need the Yearly Federal trailer inspection, before you run it.

Do I need to pay only ~20$ per year or also some sale tax even if I drive all states?

Several years ago, the last holdout, California got on board with what all the other states were doing and that is trailers aren't apportioned, only power units are. No other state, beside CA required you to get a temp to get in.

Now it is normal. Tractor is apportioned to all states, trailer is registered in one state.

Yes,but some states will still charge sales tax, require inspections, etc. Not sure about Ca.,but in Maine you don't.Title fee,tag fee, keep on trucking. No sales tax for commercial trailer.
As you said, years ago, some states wanted it all. They required apportioned fees(road tax) on trailers, also. In the 70's-80's,I had 7 or 8 plates on my tractor, and 4 on my trailer.Trailer had Ca.,Ill.,NY,and a waffle plate, with all the small trailer apportionment stickers on it.Had to have double base plates, because some states recognized 80K weight tag, some 73280.You really never knew if you were legally registered,it was a mess!

A lot of people start a LLC in Monta na when they purchase motorhomes so that the LLC is the owner and it can be titled and licensed in Montana in order to avoid the sales tax. I guess you could do that with trucks and trailers too.
